Feeling stuck in “fight or flight”?

Many people feel tired but wired, stressed but exhausted — like no amount of sleep fully restores them.

This often reflects a nervous system that is struggling to shift out of survival mode and into rest and regulation.

At Health Within Chiropractic, Dr. Scott Ketterling sees this pattern often after 40+ years of experience in chiropractic care, functional medicine, acupuncture, and Chinese medicine.

The nervous system is influenced by the structure of the body — including the spine, pelvis, and neck — which all play a role in how the body adapts to stress.

Women, especially after pregnancy and childbirth, may carry added physical strain that can contribute to long-term tension, fatigue, and feeling “off,” even with rest.

If this sounds like you, Dr. Scott can help assess your body’s alignment and nervous system function and support your overall balance during your visit.

You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode.

Feeling more irritable or “on edge” lately?

As we move into warmer, longer summer days, some people notice shifts in mood — feeling more restless, reactive, or easily frustrated.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), spring is associated with the liver system and the flow of energy throughout the body. Emotionally, this is often connected with feelings of irritability or anger when things feel out of balance.

From a wellness perspective, when the body is under stress or not feeling its best, it can show up emotionally as tension, agitation, or feeling “not like yourself.”

At Health Within Chiropractic, Dr. Scott Ketterling uses his 40+ years of experience in chiropractic care, functional medicine, acupuncture, and Chinese medicine to help support the body’s overall balance and regulation.

This may include hands-on care, lifestyle guidance, and individualized recommendations such as supportive foods and nutrients during seasonal transitions.

One of the nutritional tools sometimes used in practice is Standard Process Livaplex, as part of a broader wellness approach.

If you’ve been feeling more irritable, tense, or emotionally off lately, your body may be asking for support as it adapts to seasonal change.

Patient Testimonial 🤍

After experiencing a devastating miscarriage, sepsis, and developing severe pelvic pain, Madison spent months in and out of the ER. She couldn’t walk or care for herself without help and relied on a wheelchair to get around.

Despite all of this, she was misdiagnosed with endometriosis and was repeatedly told that her pain was “in her head.” The focus stayed on pain medication – not on finding the cause.

When Madison came to see Dr. Scott Ketterling, everything changed. Through targeted acupuncture and follow‑up adjustments along her pelvic area and spine, they worked to identify and address the root issue rather than just covering up symptoms.

Scott discovered Madison had Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome – an often overlooked cause of abdominal wall pain. And within about a month of treatment, she was out of the wheelchair and pain‑free.

Madison says she recommends Dr. Ketterling to anyone looking for a care provider who truly listens and looks deeper.

“He always tries to get to the root cause, and if one way isn’t working, he’ll try different approaches,” Madison said. “It’s so different than a hospital setting… He’s life-changing.”

Thank you for sharing your story, Madison, and thank you for trusting Health Within Chiropractic & Acupuncture with your care!

Spring & Fall Reset

At Health Within Chiropractic, we see spring and fall as powerful times to reset and support the body.

Dr. Scott Ketterling also personally does seasonal resets for the same reason — to help the body feel lighter, clearer, and more balanced.

Over 40+ years of clinical experience, we’ve seen patients experience meaningful changes when they focus on supporting their whole system, including improvements in:
✨ Energy and brain fog
✨ Digestion and bloating
✨ Weight balance
✨ Routine lab markers like triglycerides, cholesterol, and HbA1c (varies by individual)

This isn’t about starvation or extreme cleanses — it’s about giving the body better input so it can function and regulate the way it was designed to.

If you’re feeling “off” or sluggish heading into a new season, a reset may be worth exploring.

🌿 Allergies, Cross-Reactivity & the Bigger Picture 🌿

Many people think seasonal allergies are only about pollen exposure — but for some individuals, there’s also a phenomenon called pollen–food cross-reactivity (sometimes referred to as oral allergy syndrome).

This means that proteins in certain pollens can be similar to proteins found in specific raw fruits, vegetables, and nuts — which may trigger additional reactions in sensitive individuals. 🌸

For example, in some cases of alder or related tree pollen sensitivity, cross-reactivity has been observed with foods such as:
🍎 Apple
🍑 Peach
🍐 Pear
🌰 Hazelnut
🌿 Celery
🌿 Parsley
🍒 Cherry
🌰 Almond

(Individual responses vary, and not everyone will react to these foods.)

In addition, some people find that overall histamine load and tolerance may play a role in how strongly their body responds during allergy season.

This is where supporting the body’s overall balance — including digestion, regulation, and resilience — may help improve how someone feels during seasonal changes. 🌱

At Health Within Chiropractic, Dr. Scott Ketterling brings over 40 years of experience in chiropractic care, functional medicine, acupuncture, and Chinese medicine to help support the body as a whole system.

If you’re struggling with seasonal symptoms, we’re here to help you explore your options.

⚡ Brain Fog, Fatigue, Digestive Issues? Check Your Vagus Nerve

🧠 From Dr. Scott Ketterling:

I see it all the time—patients come in with fatigue, brain fog, bloating, digestive issues, low mood, and they’ve tried everything…only to find temporary relief.

When I run a full MAT screening, I often find all the meridians out of balance. More often than not, the vagus nerve is the culprit. It’s incredibly common, especially in women, for this nerve to get pinched or restricted, throwing your nervous system off.

💡 Pro Tip: Start singing or humming daily—it naturally stimulates the vagus nerve.

Even better, I can physically adjust the vagus nerve, which is crucial for lasting results and restoring balance. If you’ve been struggling with these symptoms, it might be time to give your vagus nerve some attention.

Dandelion Tea – WARNING.

Hi friends, it’s Allie, the Naturopath here! Dr. Scott and I LOVE dandelion tea — we recommend it all the time because it supports gallbladder, colon, and detox pathways, and we never want to push products on anyone.

But here’s the reality: our soils are increasingly contaminated, and unfortunately, we cannot blindly trust even common organic brands. Independent groups like Lead Safe Mama and Mamavation have done recent lab testing, and our favorite dandelion tea came back NOT clean.

📌 Traditional Medicinals Organic Dandelion Leaf & Root Tea tested positive for lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic — all four heavy metals we definitely don’t want in our teas.

Because of that, we recommend avoiding commercial dandelion tea unless you’re growing it yourself in soil you know is clean.

Dandelion is amazing — don’t skip it — but make sure what you’re drinking is truly safe.

🔍 Your Body’s “Check Engine” Cheat Sheet

Your body talks. Here’s a simple once-over to see what it’s trying to tell you:

Right rib cage pain → Gallbladder
Low back pain → Ileocecal valve
Neck swelling or pain → Thyroid
Left armpit/breast tenderness → Adrenals
Right armpit/breast area → Gallbladder
Sore spot 1 inch below xiphoid process → Stomach
Low left quadrant pain → Colon

💡 All clear? If you feel generally “off” but nothing local shows up, your nervous system may be sending confusing signals—it could be out of balance and affecting the whole body.

Your body is smart—learn to listen, support it, and fix the root, not just the symptoms.
