The City of Redding has announced the rollout of an online community survey for the Riverfront Specific Plan Update and is requesting feedback from the public.
The interactive survey allows the public to select their favorite planning concepts for specific categories, including Natural and Cultural Spaces, Outdoor Activities, Buildings and Uses, and Mobility. Additionally, community members can pinpoint areas on the map they feel are the best fit for each planning concept within
the Specific Plan Area.
“The survey is the latest step in our efforts to include the community in the planning process for the Redding Riverfront. Last year, we held Community Open Houses and formed a Community Coalition to advise the project team. Those measures led to the creation of the Vision and Guiding Principles, adopted by the City Council in January 2024,” says Director of Development Services, Jeremy Pagan. “In June, we held two very successful Community Discussion Workshops. Now, we want to provide another opportunity for people who live, work, and play in the City to share their input for the future of the Riverfront. We’re still early in the planning process, and we welcome all community members to take the online survey and share their thoughts and ideas.”
The process to create a community-led update to the Redding Riverfront Specific Plan began in April 2023. The purpose of the update is to reintroduce the city and community to the river by creating a long-term vision for 380 acres of public and private land and water along the Sacramento River. The Riverfront Specific Plan will be developed based on significant community engagement and discussion. The plan will ultimately establish goals, policies, and standards that will guide development, land stewardship and
conservation, roadway and infrastructure projects, and other activities within the area. It will also include a series of implementation strategies to transform the community vision for the Riverfront into a reality.
The community survey will be open through Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at https://bit.ly/RRSPCommunitySurvey. The survey site offers visitors an overview of the discussion to date and in-depth
background information on the Redding Riverfront Specific Plan.
