Downtown Redding is entering a new era — and it starts with the brand new Entertainment Zone! The City of Redding Podcast is breaking it down with some of the people who helped make it happen. In this episode, Katie and Steve are joined by Interim City Manager Steve Bade and Blake Fisher, Main Street Coordinator with Viva Downtown, to explore the launch of the City’s brand-new Downtown Entertainment Zone!

The Entertainment Zone, which officially opens tomorrow, Friday, December 5th, allows adults 21 and older to enjoy open alcoholic beverages purchased from participating businesses while walking within the designated downtown district, daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Learn how the idea came to life, what the City hopes to accomplish, how local businesses are preparing, and what visitors can expect when they come downtown to sip, stroll, and explore. From economic impact to community culture, this conversation offers a behind-the-scenes look at a program designed to activate and energize Redding’s core.

Whether you’re a Downtown Redding regular or haven’t visited in a while, this episode highlights how the Entertainment Zone works — and why it’s expected to be a game-changer for local businesses and community life.

The Sundial Bridge located in the heart of Redding opened to the public on July 4, 2004. World renowned Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava designed the bridge, which was his first stand-alone bridge in the United States. The McConnell Foundation funded most of the effort and then gifted the bridge to the city of Redding. An estimated 500,000 people cross the Sundial Bridge annually, which traverses the Sacramento River and links the north and south campuses of Turtle Bay Exploration Park to the Sacramento River Trail. The Foundation looks forward to a community celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Sundial Bridge in July.
