New medical scans are confirming the serious, toxic impact va**ng has on the lungs. Doctors have now documented cases of teenagers developing "popcorn lung," a permanent and incurable condition that can shorten their life expectancy.

Medically known as *bronchiolitis obliterans*, the condition causes irreversible scarring in the airways of the lungs, leading to a persistent cough, wheezing, fatigue, and shortness of breath. While the condition was once linked to a chemical used in popcorn factories, the modern concern comes from the complex mix of chemicals found in e-cigarette v***r. Many of these substances are safe to consume, but inhaling them can make them highly toxic.

The popularity of va**ng, especially among teenagers, has dramatically increased their risk of serious lung damage. Even with some products no longer containing the specific chemical once associated with popcorn lung, replacements may pose a similar threat. When these chemicals are inhaled, they bypass the body's natural filters and can cause lasting damage.

- Medical professionals are sounding the alarm about a serious and potentially permanent lung condition increasingly linked to va**ng. Commonly referred to as “popcorn lung,” or bronchiolitis obliterans, the disease damages the smallest airways in the lungs, leading to coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath that can worsen over time.

The nickname “popcorn lung” originated from cases reported in workers at microwave popcorn factories who were exposed to the chemical diacetyl—once commonly used to create buttery flavors. Although diacetyl has been banned in some products, studies have found it in certain flavored e-ci******es and v**e liquids.

Experts warn that long-term inhalation of these substances can cause lasting harm to the lungs. Unlike other lung issues that may improve with treatment, popcorn lung is irreversible and has no known cure—only symptom management.

Public health officials are urging v**ers, especially young people, to reconsider their use of e-ci******es, as research continues to uncover the long-term effects of inhaling v***rized chemicals.

“This is not just harmless water v***r,” one pulmonologist said. “We’re seeing real, permanent damage in otherwise healthy individuals.”
