Positive childhood experiences play a powerful role in supporting healthy social and emotional development. Research shows that when children miss out on joyful or meaningful experiences, it can have lasting effects—similar to the impact of experiencing hardship or trauma. In our county, we often meet young people who face both challenges. That’s why we created the Youth Explore Program! By offering free outings and activities for youth of all backgrounds, we’re helping make those happy, enriching moments a regular part of their lives. This week we took our new volunteers on a little training hike ready for the next Youth Explore Day! (…had to see if they would be able to keep up with those wily kiddos 😜 😂) Of course they passed with flying colors! 😎 These guys are a huge blessing to our team and have so many great skills to share. Introducing Explore: Monthly Outdoor Adventures for Youth!

We’re excited to officially launch Explore under Wild On Purpose! This free monthly program is designed for youth ages 10–15 to connect with nature, build confidence and community, and experience the outdoors in a safe, supportive space.

We’ve been running Explore for the past two years—and now we’re continuing with the same heart and purpose, offering once-a-month outings to make outdoor access more equitable, especially for youth from underserved communities.

Whether it’s hiking, kayaking, or learning survival skills, every Explore day is packed with adventure, friendship, and growth.

Spots are limited each month. Stay tuned for upcoming dates and how to sign up!

Yesterday we had the privilege of picking up a backpacker from the Redding airport and driving him to the Pacific Crest Trail in Castella, where he began his journey south. This guy lost a toe previously on his PCT adventures due to blisters, so we have nothing but respect for his tenacity.
