💙 Clarity is Kindness: An Honest Conversation on Dementia Caregiving 💙

Caregiving in dementia support is often led by love—but sometimes instinct can get in the way of insight. This program invites families and care partners to gently reflect on patterns that may feel natural, but don’t always serve our loved ones where they are in their journey.

✨ Together we’ll explore:

✔ Why some “common sense” approaches may unintentionally cause distress
✔ How humility and curiosity can lead to more compassionate choices
✔ Real family stories that inspired this eye-opening conversation

If you’ve ever thought, “I was only trying to help,” this session is for you.

This is not about blame—it’s about love, understanding, and becoming the kind of care partners we aspire to be. Because when we know better, we love better. 💜

🥥✨ In honor of World Coconut Day, our Cooking Club treated everyone to a sweet taste of the tropics! Residents followed our kitchen’s special recipe to make their amazing coconut macarons and then topped them with chocolate and gold sprinkles. Crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside… just the way we love them!

Day two of bake sale prep was extra sweet! Our residents spent the afternoon making raspberry muddy buddies; pink, crunchy, and dusted with sugar. They measured, mixed, and did the happy “shake-the-bag” dance, and we can’t wait to share the results with you.

Everything will be ready for our bake sale tomorrow at 10 AM. Come snag a bag (or two!) while they last and cheer on our amazing bakers for a good cause.

This week our Baking Club filled the room with laughter, flour, and the sweet smell of (a little messy!) sugar cookies baking.
Residents took turns rolling the dough, carefully cutting out shapes, and decorating each cookie with their own personal touch.
The best part was sitting together afterward, sharing stories and warm cookies fresh from the oven! 🍪

Reviews like the following remind me of why we do what we do. :

Putting mom in a memory care facility was such a difficult decision, but turned out to be the very best one. It felt like family there. The first night Patricia, the Director, stayed late to assist my mom into the facility. We had cared for mom at home far longer than we should have and even getting her into a car was a challenge. It was like taking your child to kindergarten the first day and leaving her there with a kind teacher saying, “It’s ok, go ahead and she will be fine.” And she was.
Mom liked to walk and there was plenty of room for that. Four wide hallways connect the main sitting area, two dining rooms, two living rooms, and the residents rooms. I liked that they had comfy chairs in several areas along the halls. Every staff member that walked by acknowledged her with a greeting by name, maybe a hug, even a little dance. She was a very social person and loved that. They always engaged with me as well and I would like to thank them for their contribution to moms care: Danielle, Kiana, Jo, Courtney, Andre, Sarah, Bree, Evan, Joanna, Cary, Chloe, Zach, Lidia, Thayer, Cassidy, Jessica, Christina…. I’m so sorry but I am certain there are missing names. You all made a difficult time of life for mom dignified and happy.
The facility surrounds a patio and garden area where residents are free to get some fresh air and sunshine. I liked that this was in the middle of the place and no danger to residents. It is a secure facility but doesn’t feel like it. Family is given the code for the door and welcomed anytime to come visit. Everyone was so pleasant while doing their job. I appreciated mom was clean and dressed, something we were not able to accomplish at home, so when I was there I got to enjoy her without the struggle.
The nurses were always available if I had a question, and the entire staff was amazing. Anything we asked for they did. I felt like we were partners caring for my sweet mom and she always responded to them with smiles and chatter, even hugs. Our mom died here after one year, and I could not imagine a more peaceful moment. They took care of all the family’s needs and helped us through that difficult time. I will always be grateful for the love and dignity mom received at Willow Springs.

I've never had a job where I've felt so fulfilled at the end of the day. I want to thank Karen, along with all of the families that have allowed us to be a part of their journey throughout the years
