I once had a massage therapist tell me after she took one of my Pilates classes -
“The difference between my clients and your clients is that mine come onto my massage table and all they have to do is lay there and I do everything”
Then she went onto to say -
“When your clients come into your studio, they don’t just get to lay there, they have to meet you halfway and follow your instruction in order to reap the benefits”
I was like 😳
I’d never thought of it like that before, but boy was she RIGHT the more I processes what she'd said.
Teaching Pilates is a relationship. And an intimate one at that.
And there’s something so special about relationships that form in a Pilates studio.
Pilates is a teamwork effort. It’s a process to teach this system. There is so much detail, and with every session I get to know each of my clients just a little bit better, allowing me to go deeper with them, which builds the trust between us with every session and ultimately my clients get to go deeper into their practice.
But here’s the hard part - saying goodbye 🥹
People move away. And saying goodbye has always been so hard for me because when I care for you and love you I do it with my whole heart.
I had to say goodbye to these two amazing souls as they prepare to move to Texas to live closer to family and to enjoy their retirement.
I met Val and Liz four years ago and these two, my goodness have they always met me halfway.
We’ve prehabbed and rehabbed through multiple surgeries, journeyed through tight muscles, sleepless nights, frozen shoulders…there were sessions when they hated me for making them do hip work 🤣 and called me Satan…
We’ve shared dinners, ideas, dreams and desires, we’ve laughed and cried together, I’m so grateful to call them my friends….
What a ride it has been. As I write this I can feel the knot in my throat and the tears, I will miss them dearly.
And I can also feel my heart bursting with happiness for these two creating a better life for themselves!
Some clients become friends that become family, this relationship is far deeper than the Pilates studio. These are lifelong friends now, what a gift Pilates is.
Thank you Joe 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽
ps. I feel immense gratitude for the internet where we'll be meeting on zoom for future Pilates sessions so that we may continue our Pilates journey together 😆
