Milo Winston Scherer
August 10, 1936 ~ March 15, 2026
Milo Winston Scherer, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist, died peacefully Sunday, March 15, 2026, at his home in Redlands, with family members by his side. He worked for almost thirty years at Patton State Hospital, eventually serving as acting Chief Psychologist.
The son of Byron Hanes Scherer and Elizabeth Warren (Lovell) Scherer, Milo was born in Yakima, Washington, but soon moved with his family to Tacoma, remaining there until the end of World War II. After the war, the family relocated to the San Fernando Valley. Classical music was a thread that ran through Milo’s life; he studied piano with his mother, and later with Lillian Steuber at USC.
He attended Pacific Lutheran College (now University), graduating with honors in psychology; he also took up the organ, eventually playing for services at Ft. Lewis Chapel. He continued his education with an M.Div. from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, M.Sc. in Research Psychology from San Francisco State, and Ph.D. with honors from UCLA.
Following graduation from UCLA, he served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, where he worked as an academic instructor and provided supervised applied training for students at the Allen Memorial Institute. Deciding that applied teaching and therapy were his calling, he returned to California for the remainder of his career.
During his time at Patton, a doctoral internship program was extended and enlarged, eventually including more than 50 psychologists. His staff remember him as gentle and supportive, but committed to best psychological practice. Work at Patton was supplemented by private practice. He volunteered at the San Bernardino Lutheran Mission, and was a long-time member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior (now Spirit of Our Savior Lutheran), serving as liturgist, choir member, and adult Sunday School teacher. He also served on the board of the Community Concert Association.
Milo married Mary Ellen Worrell in 1965. He is survived by Mary and their children, Jonathan Reuning-Scherer and Anne Desmarais. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Barbara, David, Byron, Molly.
A celebration of life will be held on May 22. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to one of the following organizations: Classical California public radio; Lutheran Social Services, San Bernardino County; or California State Parks Foundation.

In life’s most difficult moments, the smallest details mean everything. ❤

Choosing a locally owned funeral home isn’t just about a service—it’s about being cared for by people who truly understand your community, your values, and your family’s needs. Small businesses bring something deeply personal to the funeral industry: time, compassion, and the ability to listen.

Every life is unique, and every farewell should be too. Personalized touches—favorite songs, meaningful photos, shared stories—help turn a service into a true reflection of a loved one’s life. These moments don’t come from a template; they come from people who genuinely care.

When you support a small, family-owned funeral home, you’re supporting a team that walks beside you, not ahead of you. You’re choosing connection over convenience, and heart over routine. Thank you to the families that have trusted us to understand them, because we are them.

Because honoring a life should never feel one-size-fits-all. 🌿

Thursday, February 1, 1945 ~ Tuesday, March 17, 2026
Robert Willard Ho**er, known to many as Bob, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 17, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born on February 1, 1945, in Highland, California, Bob was raised in the community he would always consider home. Though he spent most of his years in Arizona, he returned to Highland in recent years, reconnecting with his roots and the place that helped shape his life. Early in his life he was raised on an orange grove, became a cub scout, moved on to boy scout where he reached the rank of Eagle Scout and became Chief of the Order of the Arrow.
After a brief stint in the United States Air Force with the 1365th Photographic Squadron, Bob dedicated much of his life to a long and respected career in the energy industry. He worked for Southern California Edison for 31 years, serving as a shift supervisor where he was known for his leadership, reliability, and strong work ethic. After retiring, Bob continued to contribute his expertise as a safety manager with Pacific Technical Resources for 18 years, demonstrating his enduring commitment to his profession and to the well-being of those around him.
In addition to his professional life, Bob was deeply committed to serving others. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter in Bullhead City, Arizona, and was a proud member of the Northern Arizona Firefighters Association. He found great joy in the outdoors, spending time camping, boating, and fishing whenever he could. Bob also had a passion for photography, for collecting fi****ms and was rarely without a loyal dog by his side—companionship that brought him great comfort and happiness throughout his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Ho**er and Elva Murray.
He is survived by his brother, Tom (Elaine) Ho**er of Williams, Arizona; his daughter, Jennifer (Luke) Erlenbusch of Irving, Texas; and his son, Ryan Ho**er of Costa Mesa, California. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Kylie (Trace) Tschida, Sarah Erlenbusch, and Andrew Erlenbusch; as well as his nephew, Colter (Jill) Ho**er, and great-nephew, Jaxon Ho**er.

Bob will be cremated through Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Redlands, with internment in the Ho**er Family plot at Hillside Cemetery at a date and time to be determined.
