Discover Yoga

Discover Yoga A space where each student is given an opportunity to explore yoga and its practices in a way that is supportive and adaptable to their particular needs.

Serving Redmond's community since 1997. Discover Yoga, Discover Yourself
Discover Yoga was established in 1997 in the Stonehouse bookstore in Redmond. Since its inception, the teachers and staff have been committed to serving our students through instruction of yoga postures, breathing and meditation techniques as well as the history and philosophy of Yoga. In the tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya, known as Viniyoga, our instructors have learned to adapt each class to the needs of the students. Viniyoga’s focus on individualised teaching, modifications and adaptations of the poses, and attention to breath provide the opportunity to begin at any level and deepen your practice with each class you attend. Yoga For Every Body
At Discover Yoga we firmly believe that yoga is for Every Body. There are no bodies that aren’t right for yoga, everyone can benefit from the healing, growth and deeper peace that a yoga practice can provide. As well as building strength, flexibility and overall good health in the physical body, yoga also works on the mental, emotional and personality levels to bring greater ease, joy and freedom to your life. The limitations of your physical body should never be a barrier to the health boosting benefits of practicing yoga. You won’t find any one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter yoga at DY. Viniyoga is all about adapting all of the postures and techniques to the individual student. Each class at our studio is different and reflects the needs of the students practicing in class that day. Our instructors are all trained to adapt and modify the poses to help make them accessible in some form to every student. Some of our students even practice all or part of their class seated in a chair! We can assure you that no matter your age, shape, size, stage of life or level of ability you’ll be able to find classes at our studio that you’ll enjoy and feel comfortable and successful in. What are you waiting for? Our caring, knowledgeable instructors will make you feel right at home, answer your questions and help you find a way to move that is safe and appropriate for your body. Celebrate spring and the blossoming forth of all around us by recognizing that abundance within as well! A short talk will be given regarding the nature of the mind, meditation, and the concept of abundance. The rest of the time will be experiential. Meditative experiences will include movement practices accessible to everyone, pranayama, meditative kriyas (energy work involving some combination of breath, sound, and movement), and seated meditation. The seated meditation time will include a mantra to access the energy of abundance as well as about ½ hour of a partially guided meditation. This will be a wonderful opportunity to find your inner fullness and remind yourself of the ways you can return there again and again.

What does it mean to have a "functional" pelvic floor?

Today we know that Kegels are not the best way to support a healthy pelvic floor in pregnancy. The real key to a healthy pelvic floor is a functional system that can both relax and maintain tone when needed.

It's time to leave boring Kegels in the past and learn simple and fun practices that can help you achieve the dynamic response of relax and tone to improve the holistic function of your pelvic floor.

Improving function in your pelvic floor before birth may help:
● Reduce postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction
● Reduce the risk of tearing in birth
● Shorten the duration of labor
● Improve your confidence in your connection with your body
How can Prenatal Yoga help?

Through Yoga we can connect to our physical body through movement and the breath. We get curious about how the body works and how our own body can move to support pelvic floor function.

In Prenatal Yoga, we focus on how to support an ever changing body and give way to offer comfort for some of the typical discomforts a pregnant body may experience. We use the breath to engage our nervous system and learn ways to breathe for different outcomes.

Together in this workshop, we will discuss the pelvic floor, offer ways to assess your pelvic alignment and learn how to properly breathe during pregnancy.

This workshop is led by two Certified Body Ready Method® Professionals, with specialized training in functional alignment, pelvic floor coordination, and nervous system support for pregnancy and birth. Their approach goes beyond traditional “strengthening” by focusing on how breath, core, and pelvic floor work together to support comfort in pregnancy and preparation for birth. You’ll receive evidence-informed guidance in a safe, supportive environment that honors your body’s changing needs

Coming this weekend....

Don't miss this great opportunity to learn from a childbirth expert and breathwork coach.

How you breathe is intimately connected to the health of your pelvic floor, core and nervous system. This makes your breath one of the most important tools for pregnancy and birth. However, many of the common prenatal breathing exercises found online don't teach proper breathing mechanics, which can leave you vulnerable to pelvic floor or core dysfunction.

In this workshop, you will learn physiologic-based breathing practices to help you connect your breath with your diaphragm and pelvic floor and restore your nervous system balance. You will also experience a relaxing 30-minute guided breathwork journey to reset your nervous system and leave you feeling confident as you continue to use breathwork practices in your pregnancy and birth to induce relaxation and encourage a calm birth experience.

By the end of the workshop, you will:

~Understand the connection between your diaphragm and pelvic floor
~Know how to engage your diaphragm properly to optimize your breath and limit pelvic floor dysfunction and abdominal separation
~Feel confident using your breath to induce calm during pregnancy and birth

Free Bonus: Stillpoint Prenatal Breathwork video & audio track to continue your practice at home

This class cultivates our ability to relax into poses, deepening our stretch for increased flexibility and mobility in our joints and the network of connective tissue throughout our bodies. It will balance out the work you do all day in other yoga/exercise classes and in life! Yin yoga classes support the flow of energy throughout your body, encouraging positivity, balance, and stress release.

We can not wait for this event on Saturday!!!

Escape the chaos of symptoms from ever changing hormones.

This half-day retreat is a time for connection and exploration. A gathering for women to find connection in a time that feels so confusing, a space to learn about what is happening in your mind and body, and the opportunity to learn time honored practices that help regulate your nervous system.

We will experience breath work, movement, and relaxation practices interspersed with information sessions and sharing individual stories.

The day will conclude with a Yoga Nidra session complimented with (optional) intentionally placed acupuncture needles to help you rest, recharge, and integrate the teachings of the day.
