Solidarity: Successes in Advancing Asbestos Prevention, Policy, and Action Continue Throughout April

Following strong global engagement, ADAO is extending efforts throughout April. The unanimous U.S. Senate resolution (S.Res. 666) reinforces growing bipartisan commitment to prevention and public health.

With leadership from partners including IOSH and BOHS, this year’s campaign expanded multilingual access, digital tools, and global reach.

Asbestos is a known carcinogen with no safe level of exposure. Prevention saves lives.

Continue the momentum—share your participation and help advance prevention, policy, and action.

Today, we honor and remember Mavis (UK) — "I fight on for all our Meso Warriors past, present, and future."

We honor Sara (France) — “Someone Pulled the Emergency Brake!” -- who shares her important story.

Featuring a quote by Ruth Wilkinson, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health: “Asbestos remains a major issue around the world and is the biggest cause of occupational cancer. We want to see more action to prevent exposure, manage asbestos risks, and ultimately save lives.”

It’s Day Five of .
Today’s theme: Unite Globally: Workers, Health, and Safety

We honor and remember Simon Pickvance (UK) — “The Man Who Exposed How Work Can Kill.”

Featuring a quote by Rory O'Neill, Hazards Magazine: “Like a quarter of a million other asbestos-related deaths each year, Simon’s death was one more preventable tragedy.

As we look ahead to Workers’ Memorial Day on April 28, we echo the enduring call: Mourn the dead, and fight like hell for the living.”

Over time, one truth continues to be reinforced: Unions protect more than jobs—they protect lives, ensuring every worker has a voice, safety standards, and the power to demand that going to work never means risking coming home. Without unions, workers and their families are put at risk.

Today’s theme: Demand Justice: Prevention Through Law and Policy.

We honor and remember Mike Mattmuller (U.S.) — “Staying Positive.” His voice echoed through the halls of Congress and is remembered today through our work and actions. We also honor his family, who continue to share his memory with ADAO.

Today, we highlight five key focus areas: EPA Part 1, EPA Part 2, White House East Wing Demolition, Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now (ARBAN) Act, and the 22nd Senate Asbestos Awareness Week Resolution.

Featuring a quote by Raja Flores, MD, Chair of Thoracic Surgery at Mount Sinai Health System and ADAO SAB:
“Members of Congress can do more with a pen to prevent asbestos-caused diseases than I can with a scalpel.”
