A “Quick” Story (“Quick” defined by myself...)
I’m a Certified Post-Rehab Fitness and Nutrition Coach, and over the last decade have passionately dedicated roughly 30,000 hours across 5,000+ clients, into understanding the way the body moves, repairs, inflames, strengthens, mobilizes, and stabilizes itself. For those who don’t know me, I am a man of few words and tend to get straight to the point. For those of you who do, know that was a lie. Either way you’ll discover for yourself now:
My health journey started way back when as a mixed martial artist from 6-16, and Football player from 14-23. I was an above average athlete, that went through an above average injury cycle. After all, my father was an injury ridden, fibromyalgia suffering, retired AVP Volleyball Player (I know that AVP VB player is redundant, but whatever)... so genetically speaking injuries from “inherently” weak ligaments and tendons, postural deviations from “inherently” flat feet, on a tall and lanky frame... it makes sense to explain all my injuries... Right? I was “genetically destined” to experience things like: over a half dozen severe ankle sprains/tears, 3 hamstrings tears, nearly 3 years of chronic lumbar, sciatic, and SI pain, and then some other randoms like: a neck injury that stripped some of the nerve endings going down the right side of my back/shoulder, a torn peck, torn calf, a bout of plantar fasciitis, add a dash of 4 or 5 concussions (hence, that explains why I lack the understanding of a “quick story”), and some other good injuries that I can’t recall at the moment (...again... hence, the concussions :)). That genetic destiny was what I blamed ALL of my “freak” injuries that occurred to me on... That is until I learned about functional fitness, functional medicine, and functional nutrition... and that in terms of our bodies, we can “teach an old dog, new tricks.”
Now, I’ll pick up speed: After all those injuries, and no longer wanting to beat up my body in sports, I became your typical big corporate gym IDIOT personal trainer. I sat my clients on EVERY single machine in that gym, and recommended whey protein supplements, bars, pre-workouts, etc, like it was my job! Well, it was my job, but you get my point, I was an over-bloated, meat head (as much as a meat head as my 6’3” frame can be), and kept myself and my clients in a perpetual cycle of: push and pull a BUNCH of weight, get hurt, rest, repeat. That is until I was lucky enough to move onto a job where I worked for a very progress health studio, that spent 6 months or more developing each of their employees into a Functional Movement Coach. I quickly progressed up the ladder and was blessed enough to be put in a position where my job was to hire, train and develop our coaches throughout Southern CA; through things like practical hands on meetings where we developed and tweaked each of our clients’ custom functional fitness programs. AND as a perk to my job, I was essentially paid to take constant continuing education, at a time when functional health doctors and movement coaches like Gray Cook, Kelly Starrett, Michael Boyle, Dr Mark Hyman, Dr Steven Gundry, and many more were coming up and gaining traction in the fitness and health communities.
Years later, off all medications, pain free, and with full mobility and stability throughout my body 99% of the time; I’ve now transitioned into: starting an in-home Functional Movement Coaching service called Personal Trainers Delivered in Southern CA, partnered up with celebrity trainer Kim Lyons and opened a Functional Fitness and Health Studio in Hermosa Beach, CA called Bionic Body, and currently am creating a webinar series to deliver the benefits of a truly well-balanced life in regards to Proper Mobility and Stability throughout the entire body, as well as “Sustainably” Proper Nutrition habits (“sustainable” for our clients’ pallettes, wallets, lifestyle choices, etc), out to the masses... beyond just our Sunny Paradise we call the South Bay :).
