This patient is back in the OR — not because her doctor didn’t care, but because experience matters.

She previously had surgery with a well-meaning physician who was not experienced in advanced endometriosis excision. As a result, not all of the endometriosis was removed, and her niche/isthmocele (C-section scar defect) was not properly repaired. When disease is missed or anatomy isn’t fully restored, symptoms and infertility can persist.

Endometriosis surgery is complex. The more experienced the surgeon, the better the outcomes. We’re correcting what was left behind so she can have the best possible prognosis moving forward.

🏆 Just like the Super Bowl brings together the best of football, endometriosis surgery is its own championship in medicine — and the most experienced surgeons are the MVPs.

In excision surgery, precision, skill, and years of practice matter as much as they do on the field, and patients deserve specialists who bring that same level of excellence to care.

Whether it’s tackling endo or watching the Super Bowl, celebrate expertise, perseverance, and champions in every arena.

Many patients with endometriosis also have polycystic-appearing ovaries — and this is not the same as having PCOS.

Polycystic ovaries describe an ultrasound appearance only and can be seen in patients with regular cycles and normal hormones. PCOS (polycystic o***y syndrome) is a hormonal and metabolic condition with specific diagnostic criteria, including cycle irregularity, excess androgens, and metabolic features. The two are often confused, but they are not interchangeable diagnoses.

Clear distinctions lead to better care and more appropriate treatment.

Back pain. Leg pain. Shoulder pain. Chest pain. ANY pain that worsens around menstruation or ovulation is REAL.
It’s not in your head. You’re not being dramatic. And you should never be gaslit.

Endometriosis is a whole-body disease and can cause pain far beyond the pelvis. If this sounds familiar, it deserves to be evaluated.

Unexplained pain should never be ignored. Too many people are told that chest pain, shoulder pain, leg pain, or other symptoms are “nothing”—when in reality, endometriosis can involve nerves and organs far beyond the pelvis.

Awareness leads to answers. Understanding the full scope of endometriosis is essential to proper diagnosis, care, and support. Learn more at nezhat.org, and help us continue the conversation and advocate for better care.

Have you been told it’s IBS, but your tests are normal—and you’re still bloated, in pain, or holding onto weight?

You’re not alone. Endometriosis is often misdiagnosed as IBS. Many patients with endometriosis experience severe bloating (“endo belly”), pelvic pain, inflammation, and discomfort with exercise. Some patients also have PCOS along with endometriosis, which can further worsen symptoms and confusion in diagnosis.

You are not dramatic. Your symptoms are real. And you deserve real answers.

These could be overlooked signs of endometriosis. 💛

I heard 2026 is the new 2016.

In 2016, I travelled to attend and speak at meetings in Cuba, Washington DC, and Boston—while continuing to train fellows, advance education, and help patients every day. We hosted the 3rd Annual in San Francisco, pushing awareness forward. Life also threw unexpected challenges my way—including a five car collision that totaled our car and sent me to the ER—but I was grateful to recover, spend time with family, and keep doing the work that matters most.

Different year, same mission: education, advocacy, innovation, and patient care.

The pain is not in your head.

Too many patients are gaslit, dismissed, or told they’re being dramatic—when their pain is very real. I see patients every day who were not believed, only to later be found to have extensive endometriosis. Listening to patients matters. Believing them matters. Pain is a signal, not a weakness.

If you suspect you may have endometriosis, download the free Nezhat Endometriosis Advisor app and take the questionnaire to assess your risk.
