This queen is about to dominate the garden. The pomegranate, aka la granada (Spanish for gr***de), will explode with nutrition. Pomegranates are rich in ellagic acid, a potent anti-oxidant that scavenges free radicals in the body and neutralizes them. Think of a sniper fighting pre-cancer cells, so good, very very good!

A quick search on pomegranate compounds and bacteria will bring up its powerful effect at preventing overgrowths of E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and drug resistant strains. This means it may help you or your antibiotic have a greater success fighting infections.

Most important is the delicious flavor. A fruit that is not too sweet to join a salad, gorgeous as a juice in a mocktail, and subtle enough to top any dish. If you’re not up to the task of peeling, you may find one pre-divided in the market. Bon appetit and please let me know if you love them.😊

I always love my garden best in spring. Especially when the artichokes bloom. I boil these lovelies with lemon and peppercorns and then dip them in aioli. They taste delicious to me and my gut bacteria thrive with the inulin and fiber. How do you like them?

Happy 20 child! I love you more than all of the stars in all of galaxies.✨⭐️🌟✨

This was so fun, please try it. My girlfriend didn’t want to use a knife or sharp object for lunar new year so we ripped our greens, tofu, and shiitake for an amazing stir fry. Did you try any new cooking methods?

Hope you are thinking about planting seeds if you live in a sunny zone.

I attended a very cool fermentation workshop this last weekend with . We learned how to make koji, we made shio koji, and amazake pudding. I love to make fermented foods to feed my gut bacteria and this popped up appropriately right after my trip to Japan. I’m excited to make the amazake on my own now.

The class was at a very cute workshop and store called Preserved in Oakland. There, I found a mirin without corn syrup in it and koji rice already made in case you’re nervous about fermenting. I highly recommend a class with Karen and those are the pickles I made from her last class I attended. Happy fermenting!

Japan photo dump. I’m still getting over the jet lag and culture shock of being so immersed somewhere and then suddenly trying to jump bank into the cadence of the US.

It was cold in Hokkaido but the snow was epic just like they say “Japow”, and I feel so fortunate to be able to ski 4 days in a row at 50yo. The scenery was calm and the onsen or hot springs were so therapeutic. Tokyo was overwhelming, even for someone who lived in NYC. So many people, and so much packaged food, but still so clean and everyone was so polite. I will definitely want to visit again and recommend 10/10.

This is a dish I hope to replicate. Warm and spicy broth with chicken, mushrooms, potato, carrot, sweet potato, and chili. Especially when it’s snowing and cold 🥶🍲😋

Have you seen the Row 7 veggies at your local health food store? Chef Dan Barber founded this seed company in 2018 to produce high quality produce with exceptional flavor and he succeeded. This is Koginut squash which is like a better butternut and Garleek which is a milder garlic and leek. Delicious 😋 and totally worth looking for!
