✨ DBT Skill in Focus: Opposite Action ✨

Opposite Action is a core DBT skill that helps us respond to intense emotions with intention rather than impulse.

It doesn’t ask us to deny what we’re feeling — it invites us to pause, name the emotion, and choose behavior that supports our long-term well-being.

This is especially powerful when emotions are loud and the urge feels convincing. Small, gentle opposite actions can slowly shift how we feel — and how connected we remain to ourselves and others.

You don’t have to do it perfectly. You just have to start.💛

🌿 Therapist Spotlight: Pembe Ethem, PsyD 🌿

Pembe creates a warm, culturally attuned space where clients can show up as their full, authentic selves. Her work is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and a strength-based, attachment-informed lens. With extensive experience providing care within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, she has worked with clients navigating trauma, substance use, personality and mood disorders, and significant life stressors.

Drawing from CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, Seeking Safety, and even humor, Pembe creates a space where clients can explore vulnerability, resilience, and what it means to live more authentically. She especially enjoys working with individuals (ages 15+) who are ready for growth, healing, and meaningful change.

🌿 Therapist Spotlight: Sarah Easton, LCSW 🌿

Known for her warm and steady presence, Sarah creates a grounding and deeply relational space for her clients. With years of experience in community mental health and the Palo Alto VA, she supports adults navigating addiction, trauma, grief, spiritual development, and relationship challenges.

Integrating Jungian-influenced psychodynamic therapy, DBT, Hakomi, and mindfulness-based approaches, Sarah helps clients move beneath life stories into the felt experience of the present moment— where transformation becomes possible. She believes therapy is a courageous turning inward— an opportunity to access inner wisdom, build emotional resilience, and cultivate healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

So many people with emotionally over-controlled tendencies move through the world holding their breath — staying composed, staying productive, staying “fine.”

RO-DBT helps us notice the ways we tighten, brace, and push through… even when what we really need is softness, rest, or support.

You’re allowed to exhale.
You’re allowed to slow down.
You’re allowed to be human.

If this resonates, our “Are You Over-Controlled?” quiz (link in bio) is a gentle place to start. 💛
