✨Resistance isn’t something to push past. It’s something to understand.✨

In therapy, we slow down enough to hear the story behind it — and to understand what it’s been protecting all along. That’s where real change begins.💛

🌿The hardest things are rarely meant to be carried solo.🌿

Complex inner lives — the ones full of nuance, contradiction, and quiet intensity — deserve a space where they can actually be known. Not managed. Not simplified. Known.

That’s what therapy can be.💛

💎Wise Mind is one of the most foundational skills in DBT — and it’s the concept our practice is named after!💎

It’s the place where emotional mind and reasonable mind meet. Most of us spend time in one extreme or the other. Emotional mind feels deeply but can pull us toward choices we regret. Reasonable mind thinks clearly but can dismiss what matters most.

Wise Mind holds both. It’s the quiet, inner knowing that’s always there — even when things feel loud or unclear.

This is a skill, not a personality trait. And with practice, it becomes easier to find.💛

🌱Growth isn’t just about what’s visible.🌱

In therapy, we pay attention to what’s underneath — the patterns, protective strategies, and early experiences that shape how you move through the world.

When we tend the roots, change becomes steadier. More sustainable. More aligned with who you actually are.

The Wise Mind Institute offers exceptional therapy for people with complex inner lives — work that honors depth, not just symptoms.

⚡️When emotions surge, it can feel impossible to think clearly.⚡️

That’s because your nervous system has shifted into survival mode. In those moments, insight and problem-solving won’t help — regulation will.

TIP skills are designed to reduce emotional intensity quickly by working directly with the body. They’re simple, science-informed tools that can help bring your system back into balance so you can respond with intention rather than impulse.

Skills like these are part of DBT, and they’re learnable — even in the hardest moments.

Save this for when you need it.💛

✨ DBT Skill in Focus: Opposite Action ✨

Opposite Action is a core DBT skill that helps us respond to intense emotions with intention rather than impulse.

It doesn’t ask us to deny what we’re feeling — it invites us to pause, name the emotion, and choose behavior that supports our long-term well-being.

This is especially powerful when emotions are loud and the urge feels convincing. Small, gentle opposite actions can slowly shift how we feel — and how connected we remain to ourselves and others.

You don’t have to do it perfectly. You just have to start.💛

🌿 Therapist Spotlight: Pembe Ethem, PsyD 🌿

Pembe creates a warm, culturally attuned space where clients can show up as their full, authentic selves. Her work is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and a strength-based, attachment-informed lens. With extensive experience providing care within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, she has worked with clients navigating trauma, substance use, personality and mood disorders, and significant life stressors.

Drawing from CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, Seeking Safety, and even humor, Pembe creates a space where clients can explore vulnerability, resilience, and what it means to live more authentically. She especially enjoys working with individuals (ages 15+) who are ready for growth, healing, and meaningful change.
