💜 Colon Cancer Survivor, Mark Graves is throwing the at the Greensboro Grasshoppers next Friday! ⚾️🧢
đź’ś Mark Graves was likely in the early stages of colon cancer--when it's most treatable--but it was the early days of the pandemic and his regularly scheduled colonoscopy was canceled. Mark moved on with his life.
⏰ By the time he rescheduled in April 2022, Mark and his wife Vanessa’s lives were changed forever. Mark was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer.
🔬 “I had no symptoms and felt a hundred percent great,” says Mark about the day of his belated colonoscopy. “If my experience can tell people one thing, it’s to get your colonoscopy when it’s recommended – check your colon! Had I gotten it done earlier, my story may have turned out very differently.”
💜 Mark's wife Vanessa, who works in the medical field, recalls researching colorectal surgeons, which led the couple to Dr. Alicia Thomas: “Up front and honest, she turned out to be one the best surgeons I could have ever imagined.”
🏥 Not only did Dr. Thomas successfully remove the cancerous portion of Mark’s colon, but the handoff to Dr. Brad Sherrill, a Cone Health oncologist, was expedient. Even as Mark continued working full-time, he completed six months of chemotherapy: “Dr. Sherrill is an exceptional physician with over 25 years of experience, which is evident in his patient care. He and his team were so accommodating, caring and thorough. I was treated like I was the only patient they had.”
🔔 Today, Mark is cancer free. By following doctors’ orders and relying on their shared faith to stay positive, the couple believes they made the “best decisions” when it came to their dream medical team: “We thank God every day for life, and we are so very grateful for Dr. Malcolm Stark, Dr. Alicia Thomas and Dr. Brad Sherrill for their extraordinary care.”
