Some people go above and beyond—and then there’s Pete Crouch. 💙

We are honored to present our latest Compassionate Connections Award to Pete, owner of Eden Drug, for the extraordinary care he showed our patients during this year’s winter storms.

When back-to-back storms rendered delivery cars immovable , Pete didn’t hesitate. He got in his own car and personally delivered medications to ensure our patients had what they needed to be safe, comfortable, and cared for at home.

Two of our nurses - Tabitha Garrett and Kim Smith - were so moved by his dedication that they each nominated him for this recognition, and we couldn’t agree more. Pete’s actions are a powerful reminder of what compassion in action truly looks like.

Thank you, Pete, for being such an incredible partner in care and for showing our community what it means to serve with heart. 💙

Pictured with Pete is Tabitha Garrett, one of the nurses that submitted a nomination.

💡 Tuesday Tip: Hospice Myth vs. Truth

One of the biggest myths about hospice is that it means giving up—or stopping all care. That’s simply not true.

Hospice is about shifting the focus to comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Patients continue to receive expert care, pain management, and emotional support every step of the way.❤️

🎥 Be sure to watch to the end for a helpful graphic—perfect to screenshot, save, or share with someone who might need it.

Ancora Compassionate Care held its annual volunteer appreciation banquet earlier this week. One of the highlights of the evening involved presenting Polly Caple with the first-ever Distinguished Service Award! Polly was recognized for more than 35 years' service to Ancora's patients, families, and staff.

Polly began as a volunteer in 1990 - when Hospice of Rockingham County was barely three years old. Through the years, she has offered her help and support in all capacities - patient care, administrative support, and special events. She also helps make weekly tuck-in calls to patients and lends a hand at The Robin's Nest, preparing merchandise for sale. Polly epitomizes what it looks like to have a servant's heart and we hope she'll be volunteering for many years to come!

Please join Ancora Compassionate Care in congratulating Mark McClintock for being named the 2026 Mickey Hair Volunteer of the Year. Mark has volunteered with us since 2011 and has served in almost every capacity possible - as a patient volunteer, courier for Gibson House, helping at The Robin's Nest, and he has even been known to make pieces of jewelry for the volunteers' annual auction. We are grateful Mark chooses to share his time and talents with Ancora!
