Cherokee County has NOT lifted the burn band.

Rusk County has lifted the burn ban so be aware which county you are in, just because your neighbor is able to burn you may not be able to. We hate for anyone to get a citation for burning.

As of today Rusk County has been placed under BURN BAN. Cherokee County was placed under BURN BAN last week.

BURN BAN Update: This morning the Rusk County Commissioners Court issued a full burn ban for outdoor burning (including the use of any rolling unit with fire in the box on any road, and enclosed burn barrels or receptables).

In the past two months, Rusk County fire departments have responded to 135 wildland fires, 41 of which were in the past two weeks. The largest fire was 219 acres, and several others have been over 20 acres. We're seeing unseasonably warm temperatures and a departure of rainfall from 4" to 8" in the county over the past three months. We'll continue to monitor the weather conditions to determine when the burn ban can be rescinded.

The ban does not limit the following:

Outdoor gas grills, charcoal grills, and completely enclosed barbeque smokers are excluded from the order.

The order does not prohibit the following, per state law: (1) firefighter training; (2) public utility, and natural gas or mining operations; or (3) harvesting of agricultural crops.

See attached order in the comments.

-------------------------------------------
Original post: The Rusk County Commissioners Court just approved a full burn ban, prohibiting all outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas in the county. The order is effective immediately. We’ll update this post shortly with further details and information.

Ok everyone our new tanker that we received from the Texas Forest Service 2604 grant program has made it home to the station. It is a 3000 gallon truck same as the one it is replacing, the only different is 20 years newer and has a larger pump and more storage. We should have it completely in service within the next couple of weeks.

Please be responsible and not burn today.

Please be responsible and not burn today.

Ok the set up is in place for one of those historic Christmas Eve events. A relatively dry frontal passage with low RH / high winds along with cured grasses has created a strong likelihood for wildfires today..
DO NOT BURN TODAY!!!
