Renown, the University of Nevada, Reno Extension and the Orvis School of Nursing were out and proud to celebrate PRIDE in northern Nevada on Sept. 6! We were honored to stand by the members of the Reno-Sparks LGBTQIA+ community who enhance our vibrant and diverse region every day.

From marching in the parade with enthusiasm to offering blood pressure checks at the festival from compassionate residents, nurses and learners, we had a blast celebrating the LGBTQIA+ voices who make our community stronger.

On World Sepsis Day, we’re reminding our community: trust your instincts, know the signs and seek care fast. Our care teams recognized this important day with an event yesterday, enjoying treats and activities together while engaging in an open discussion all about sepsis prevention.

Did you know that in 2024, Renown cared for just under 3,000 patients with sepsis? So far in 2025, nearly 2,000 patients have already been admitted, and we’re on pace to see just as many again this year. Sepsis is serious, but early recognition saves lives.

Mental health struggles affect more people than you may think, from childhood to adulthood. 1 in 5 adults in Washoe County has been diagnosed with depression, and 1 in 5 Nevada high school students have seriously thought about committing su***de.

Su***de prevention starts with all of us. The first step is knowing the signs that someone we love might be considering su***de, which may include:

1. Extreme feelings of sadness, hopelessness, emptiness or unbearable emotional pain

2. Talking about being a burden to others, guilt and shame or wanting to die

3. Behavioral changes, such as withdrawing from friends and family, giving away important items, displaying extreme mood swings or using drugs and alcohol more often

At Renown Health, all our employees are amazing – and on Aug. 22 we had the chance to celebrate over 900 of those amazing team members who hit a years-of-service milestone or received a Top Talent award.

Ready to quit smoking or va**ng? We’re here to support you on your journey to quitting. Join Renown’s FREE four-week smoking and va**ng cessation program!

These classes are available to anyone who wants to learn about your triggers to smoking, ways to cope while quitting and the products available to assist with becoming tobacco-free.

In-person classes take place in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Classroom at Renown South Meadows Medical Center:

- Fridays from 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m.

- Saturdays from 10-11 a.m.

Virtual classes are available on Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m.
