His Hispanic heritage meant years of difficulty being accepted into medical school and struggling to find work in a lab, but he was determined to work in the medical field to help others.
Dr. Benacerraf’s persistence and dedication paid off! His team's discovery of genetic structures that control immune system responses was groundbreaking.
From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 (Hispanic Heritage Month), AMSURG honors the contributions of Hispanic and Latino healthcare leaders like Dr. Benacerraf.
