This week’s Medical Mondays spotlight is on Laura Harsh, an experienced oncology nurse practitioner at Cancer Care Specialists.

Laura’s dedication to cancer care began early in her career while working on the oncology unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno. That experience shaped a passion for supporting patients during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives.

Her clinical background spans medical oncology, radiation oncology, and infusion care, giving her a comprehensive understanding of the patient journey from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship.

As a nurse practitioner, Laura focuses on ensuring patients feel heard, informed, and supported throughout their care. She works closely with physicians and the broader care team to guide treatment, manage symptoms, and help patients navigate complex decisions with confidence.

Because in oncology, clinical expertise matters, but so does compassion.

This Mental Health Month, we’re reflecting on something deeply important to us at Cancer Care Specialists:

Cancer care is about far more than treatment plans, labs, and appointments.

It’s about people navigating fear, uncertainty, exhaustion, and emotional weight that often goes unseen.

That’s why our partnership with Colla Health has meant so much to our patients and care teams.

Together, we’ve now supported more than 500 patients through integrated behavioral health services embedded directly into the cancer care journey.

500 patients who did not have to carry the emotional side of cancer alone.

Because anxiety, depression, distress, and emotional fatigue are not separate from cancer care.

They are part of the patient experience.

At CCS, we believe caring for the whole patient is not an added feature of oncology care.

It’s essential to it.

By integrating behavioral health support directly into our model, patients have access to compassionate, evidence-based emotional support alongside their medical treatment, helping them feel more supported, more connected, and more empowered throughout their journey.
