Shine bright with Vitamin D! Also known as the sunshine vitamin, this vitamin plays a crucial role in our health by helping the body absorb calcium and promoting bone and teeth strength.

Here are the top 5 benefits of Vitamin D:

1. Bone and dental health

2. Immune system support

3. Regulation of insulin

4. Cardiovascular health support

5. Cancer prevention

Discover more about the goodness behind Vitamin D below.

Getting the vitamin D you need isn’t quite as simple as soaking up the rays. Vitamin D breaks down quickly, and in the winter – especially in northern latitudes – the sun never gets high enough for UVB rays to pe*****te the atmosphere and reach your skin. So how do you get enough vitamin D?

At every Renown location, everyone who walks through our doors deserves to feel safe. Renown is a place of kindness, care, compassion and healing – and NO place for violence.

Workplace violence disproportionately affects healthcare workers across the country. In fact, although they make up only 10% of the U.S. workforce, they experience nearly half of all reported nonfatal injuries due to violence in the workplace.

As a and Zero Tolerance for Violence health system, we appreciate you joining us in our commitment to keep Renown a safe space of healing for all.

Even though the mind is resilient, it might not always feel that way. That’s where the importance of mental healthcare comes in – and northern Nevada needs it more than ever.

In Washoe County alone, nearly one in five community members reported two or more straight weeks of poor mental health. With feelings of distress, depression, anxiety and stress on the rise, we need a team of professionals devoted to helping the mind heal.

Enter the Behavioral Health department at Renown Health and the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, where healing always remains top of mind (pun intended). Learn more about this Becker’s Hospital Review-recognized team in their .

While you’re enjoying your Independence Day festivities, take a moment to meet Raven, our for July!

Raven is a Shepherd/Malinois mix cared for by Richard Lange and Vickie Blair. In between tummy rubs, snuggles and chasing lizards, Raven is commonly seen around Renown sporting stylish nail art painted by Richard. In true “it’s a small world” fashion, Raven ran into a patient who happened to be the animal control officer who had rescued her from a kill shelter and brought her to a no-kill shelter in Portola when she was a year old.

Richard and Vickie recall, “Without that man’s willingness to make that trip, we wouldn’t have Raven. In Raven’s time of need, he helped her – and then, when he was in the hospital, Raven helped him. It still brings us chills!”
