Back-to-School Talks: Keep It Real, Supportive, and Low-Stress

Heading back to school can stir up big feelings for kids. Here’s how to make those conversations easier and more helpful:

Be Real About Challenges
Don’t gloss over past struggles. Acknowledge them and use them to plan ahead. Let your child talk through worries and brainstorm solutions together.

Take Worries Seriously
Even if a concern seems small to you, it might feel huge to them. Validate their feelings and ask open-ended questions to help them open up.

Focus on the Positives
Remind them of the fun stuff — favorite classes, teachers, friends, or decorating their locker. Ask what they’re looking forward to.

Don’t Force It
If they’re not ready to talk, that’s okay. Be present, stay supportive, and keep the door open for when they are ready.

This past weekend, Sierra Sunrise Wellness Group joined our local community at Sparks Marina for the 10th annual Out of the Darkness Walk hosted by the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention of Nevada. 💜✨
