Today, Saint Mary's hosted our annual Craft Fair, which gives staff who have creative, crafty hobbies an opportunity to show off their skills and sell some of their incredible products before the holiday shopping is in full swing.

Last week, Donor Network West recognized several northern Nevada healthcare honorees at the Champion of Hope Appreciation Awards for their essential role in saving and healing lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation.

We are incredibly proud of our three team members who were given 2025 Champion of Hope Awards:
• Gift of Life Award: Meeta, ICU charge nurse
• Beacon Award: Patrisha, director of perioperative services
• Hope & Healing Award: Father Conrado, reverend and hospital chaplain

These staff members were recognized for their outstanding leadership, unwavering dedication, and compassion in caring for patients and their families who said yes to furthering hope through lifesaving donations.

For this month's department feature, meet the incredible caregivers from our Medical-Surgical team! When asked about the team, the Med/Surg Director shared this: “The Medical-Surgical team is truly the heart of our hospital, providing exceptional care to patients with a wide range of complex medical conditions and surgical recovery needs. Every day, our nurses and staff demonstrate remarkable versatility, compassion, and clinical expertise, caring for patients through every stage of recovery and making a lasting difference in their lives. Their teamwork, adaptability, and dedication ensure that every patient receives safe, personalized, and compassionate care.”

Located on the 3rd floor at the north end of the hospital, the Med/Surg unit cares for adults ages 18 to 118+, supporting patients with everything from acute illnesses to chronic conditions. This team also plays a crucial role in recovery after surgical procedures, including general surgery, orthopedics, urological care, and more, all within 48 private rooms designed for healing and comfort.

Every day, this department shows what exceptional care looks like: adaptable, skilled, deeply compassionate, and always centered around the patient. Whether someone is recovering from surgery or managing a complex medical condition, the Med/Surg team is right there at the bedside with dedication and heart.

We are so excited to announce that the American College of Cardiology (ACC) has once again recognized Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center for its exceptional commitment to comprehensive, high-quality cardiovascular care! Saint Mary’s was awarded the HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence after meeting rigorous accreditation criteria, making this the 6th consecutive year that we have earned this national distinction.

“This designation reflects the exceptional skill and compassion of our cardiovascular teams, whose work ensures northern Nevadans can receive nationally recognized heart care without ever leaving our region,” said Derrick Glum, MBA, FACHE, CEO of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “Their expertise elevates the standard of heart care in our community and strengthens our ability to meet the region’s growing needs with confidence and excellence.”

We want to recognize two of our employees for achieving "Employee of the Month" at both our hospital and our medical group. We are acknowledging Erika and Cathi for this exciting accomplishment!

Here are just a few of the wonderful comments that were submitted on these employees:

Erika – "There are not enough words to describe the care and compassion displayed by Erika towards my 92-year-old mother. She made a very difficult situation easy. She gave my mom dignity in all situations, and she genuinely gave her comfort, safety, and overall, a sense of security. Truly, she is a great asset to this hospital."

Cathi – "Cathi is a very valuable asset to the Saint Mary’s team. She is always willing to assist with any issues when asked. Cathi has extensive knowledge and experience. She is a pleasure to work with, and she deserves recognition for all her hard work and dedication."
