I knew this workout was going to be hard, and it delivered.

My triceps were already burning in round one, and I remember thinking, this is going to be a long 40 minutes.

It was a 3-round workout with a time cap, and part of it included the SkiErg.

What I didn’t realize until round three was that I had been doing 80 calories each round, which was the prescribed number for men. Women’s was 65 calories.

This was completely unintentional, and honestly, I’m proud of it 💪 I showed up ready to work, trusted my body, and followed through… Even if I didn’t follow directions 😆

Strong start to the weekend.

Find Your Athlete Within!ÂŽ

This morning’s trail run reminded me how much life can shift when you step into a new environment. For the first half of my life, I ran the trails of Orange County and Los Angeles. Those places shaped me, challenged me, and gave me so many miles of memories.

But after a while, you start craving something new. New terrain. New energy. New perspectives.

Now living in Reno, I’m realizing I have hundreds of trails waiting to be explored. Every run feels like discovery again, and honestly, it makes me feel so alive. I feel grateful, grounded, and really happy with this season of life. I don’t take any of it for granted.

Here’s to new paths, new adventures, and continuing to find the athlete within no matter where life takes you.

Yesterday’s halftime show got me thinking, but not in the way most people are talking about it.

I’m Puerto Rican, and seeing Puerto Rico represented on that stage meant something to me. But here’s the honest part.

I didn’t grow up in Puerto Rico. I’ve only been there once, for my grandfather’s funeral. I didn’t grow up fluent in Spanish. I know some from high school classes, but not conversational Spanish. I didn’t recognize all the songs, and I’m not deeply immersed in the culture since I grew up in Southern California with a small immediate family.

So moments like that don’t land as loud celebration for me. They land as something quieter. A reminder of where my family comes from, even if my connection looks different from someone who grew up there.

And that made me think about something I see all the time in my work.

So many people feel like they don’t belong in fitness.

They think, “I’m not athletic enough.”
“I didn’t grow up playing sports.”
“I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“I don’t look like those people.”

But belonging isn’t based on how perfectly you fit the picture. It’s about allowing yourself to take up space anyway.

You don’t have to be the most experienced.
You don’t have to know all the “rules.”
You don’t have to have grown up in it.

You’re allowed to step in, learn, grow, and make it your own.

That’s what I try to create at Renov8 Fitness. A place where people from different backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations, and starting points can feel like they belong, even if they feel “in between” or unsure at first.

Sometimes identity and growth start the same way. You don’t feel fully inside it yet, but you step forward anyway.

And that’s what truly matters.

This weekend I had one of those proud grandma moments that really stayed with me. My 8-year-old granddaughter, Aalish, competed in her very first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament, and even though I was not there in person, it meant so much to witness it through the videos afterward.

Before the event, she asked her grandpa and me not to attend. I think she was feeling nervous, and I completely understood. That was a big moment for her, and sometimes kids need space to face something like that on their own. I respected her decision, and I know there will be many future tournaments where we will get to cheer her on live. For this one, we watched from a distance and celebrated her afterward.

At the end of the event, she found out she had tied for third place and had to jump right back in for a tie-breaker round with almost no notice. That is a lot of pressure for anyone, let alone a child, and she stepped onto the mat anyway. During that round, she got docked one point because her inhaler fell out of her gi, and she did not even know it was in there. She ended up losing that match by one point, which placed her fourth overall.

Of course, part of her wished for that medal, but what stood out to me had nothing to do with placement. She handled nerves, adjusted in the moment, and kept going even when things did not go perfectly. That is where real confidence and resilience are built, and it was such a powerful reminder that athletics shape who we are on the inside just as much as on the outside.

The night before the tournament, I watched both Aalish and my grandson August in one of their BJJ classes, and it honestly lit a fire in me again. I have only taken one BJJ class so far, but seeing them train reminded me why I want to do this too. I want to learn self-defense, understand the sport they love, and continue being a student of movement myself.

Growth does not belong to one age group. Whether we are kids stepping onto a mat for the first time or adults trying something new after years away, it always lives just outside our comfort zone. Proud does not even begin to cover it.

Here’s what I’ve learned after years of coaching and living this myself:

The strongest people aren’t the ones who never fall off.
They’re the ones who know how to return.

Return to movement without shame.
Return to nourishment without extremes.
Return to your body with trust instead of frustration.

That’s where real strength is built.

Not in all-or-nothing thinking.
Not in perfection.
But in coming back again and again with awareness and self-respect.

This is the work I do.
Helping people rebuild consistency without burnout.
Helping them feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies again.

If you’re ready to return to yourself, I’m here.

You don’t need to do everything.
You just need to start somewhere.

Let me say this clearly:

I am not perfect. And I don’t expect you to be either.

During our recent move, my workouts stopped.
My running paused.
I stopped tracking my water and food.

And that was intentional.

That season required my energy elsewhere. The move was the priority, and I was okay with that.
This is something a lot of people miss:

Pausing is not quitting.
Losing focus is not failing.
Adjusting priorities does not erase who you are.

Health isn’t about rigid rules. It’s about knowing when to push and when to give yourself permission to shift.

Now that life is settling, my focus is shifting back too.
Not with guilt. Not with punishment.
Just with intention.

If you’ve had a season where things fell off, you’re not behind.
You’re human.

And you can always begin again.

Here’s What’s Actually Hard

Taking care of your body can be hard.
Eating well can be hard.
Moving consistently can be hard.

But so is feeling stuck in a body that doesn’t move the way you want it to.
So is low energy, lingering aches, and watching your confidence slowly fade.
So is knowing you’re capable of more, but not feeling like yourself anymore.

We all get to choose which “hard” we live with.

For me, I choose the hard that gives something back.

I choose movement that makes me feel strong and capable.
I choose food choices that support my energy and my future.
I choose the long game… Moving well, thinking clearly, and feeling at home in my body.

Not because it’s easy or perfect every day.
But because I feel better after I show up.

Nothing needs to change overnight.
Big goals are built from small, consistent decisions.

At some point, we all face a choice between staying capable or slowly giving pieces of ourselves away.

I hope you choose yourself.

Are you with me?

Yesterday we celebrated my daughter’s 32nd birthday, and my heart is so full.

Nothing fancy, just being together at her house, eating snacks, playing video games, and soaking up time with the people who matter most.

Me, my daughter, her husband , and my five grandkids.

So simple. So special 💛

The Importance of Having a Coach This Time of Year

Have you ever worked with a coach?

Coaching is not just about motivation or being told what to do.

People work with coaches to regain clarity, rebuild trust in themselves, and feel supported through seasons of change. Some work with coaches in business or relationships. Others seek guidance with their health and fitness when their body no longer feels like “home.”

The start of a new year often brings pressure, comparison, and an urge to fix everything at once. But lasting change does not come from forcing more. It comes from rebuilding a strong, safe foundation in your body and your life.

January is loud. A coach helps you slow down, cut through the noise, and focus on what actually supports your body, your nervous system, and your long-term strength.

This is not about grinding harder or chasing a quick reset. It is about returning to strong in a way that actually lasts.

If you are ready to feel capable, supported, and grounded in your body again, the first step is a Renov8 Readiness Call.

The Importance of Having a Coach This Time of Year

Have you ever worked with a coach?

Coaching isn’t just about motivation or being told what to do.

People work with coaches to regain clarity, rebuild trust in themselves, and feel supported through seasons of change. Some use coaches in business or relationships. Others seek guidance with their health & fitness when their body no longer feels like “home.”

And the start of a new year is often one of those moments.

This season can stir up pressure, comparison, and urgency to “fix everything.” But lasting change doesn’t come from forcing more. It comes from rebuilding a strong, safe foundation in your body and your life.

Here’s why working with the right coach matters right now.

1️⃣ January is loud. Expectations, resolutions, and timelines pile up fast. A coach helps you slow down, cut through the noise, and focus on what actually supports your body, your nervous system, and your long-term strength.

2️⃣ A skilled coach offers grounded, unbiased guidance. Friends and family care deeply, but they don’t have the training, experience, or outside perspective needed to guide sustainable change. Coaching brings clarity, structure, and calm when things feel overwhelming.

3️⃣ A coach helps you return to strength safely. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Through proven systems, intentional progressions, and personalized support, a coach helps you rebuild confidence, resilience, and trust in your body instead of pushing through pain or burnout.

This isn’t about grinding harder or chasing a quick reset.

It’s about returning to strong in a way that actually lasts.

If you’re ready to feel capable, supported, and grounded in your body again, the first step is a Renov8 Readiness Call.
