Go PURPLE in June! 💜

June is National Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month! Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder that affects one’s memory, thinking skills and the ability to carry out normal daily tasks. This disorder is not reversible and has been determined to NOT be a normal part of aging. Although we know the cause of dementia is due to a buildup of proteins (Amyloid Plaques and Tau Tangles) in the brain, the exact cause of those buildups has not been determined. Every brain has Amyloid, and a healthy brain will break down those peptides and eliminate them. Unfortunately, an unhealthy brain will have Amyloid that begin to stick together and form plaques. These plaques have the ability to hinder brain function which may impair one’s cognitive abilities. One way to help in the healthy maintenance of brain cells is to maintain a healthy immune system! For proper ways to do that, and for the best nutritional information to maintain brain health, always speak to your physician! Too much of something can be just as harmful as not enough! Never begin supplements without the guidance of your physician!

We have often received this question: What is an Osteopathic Physician?

An Osteopathic Physician (DO) focuses mostly on preventative and holistic care. They typically focus on lifestyle interventions in addition to traditional medicine. An example of this would be the topic of “weight loss”. Lifestyle and nutritional changes would be encouraged BEFORE medicine. Osteopaths like to encourage the body’s ability to heal itself with corrective actions. We all know that it’s not always successful for each person and then a medicinal intervention could be the next step. Our bodies are amazing and have such great abilities to heal itself! That’s why this is the first line of treatment. Sometimes there does come a time when we need true medical intervention. Osteopathic Physicians also receive extra training in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. It is a hands-on technique to safely, and gently, manipulate muscles and joints. This technique is used to identify, treat, and prevent illness or injury.

What is osteopathic medicine? This unique branch of U.S medical practice sees an interrelated unity in all systems of the body, each working with the other to heal in times of illness.

This is just an FYI in case you were not yet aware, or are new to the practice 🥙 :

The office takes lunch from 12pm-12:45pm. The doors will always be locked during that time for staff to have an appropriate break and eat their meal. Some days there may be a staff member answering the phone during the lunch hour, but the doors will remain LOCKED. If you call and there is not someone available to answer at any time of the day, simply leave a message. Our voicemail has all pertinent information such as hours of operation, medication refill protocol, and emergency protocol.

Another very important piece of information 🚪 :

PLEASE do not pull on the doors repeatedly when they are locked. This occurred multiple times recently which caused a pin to come out of the front door hinge and it was unable to be closed the entire way during a VERY cold day.

Our BACK DOOR is a STAFF and HANDICAPPED entrance for those who need it. We also have a wheelchair available for use at the office. You may always let us know ahead of time if you or someone you are bringing will need it.

🚨 As always, If you have an emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. 🚨

Probst Family Practice appreciates your cooperation! 👨🏼‍⚕️ 🩺 💊 💉 🦠

🚨 In Case You Missed It! Our office now has an app available for your health records and communication! 🚨

Keep something in mind: because we are a private practice, things do not get loaded automatically and instantaneously! Our work is ALL done manually. We are not affiliated with and are not a large corporation where your imaging, lab results, notes from specialists etc. are automatically entered. When something is received by our office, it is manually uploaded into a chart and then becomes available for viewing. You can use the links below for apple and android, or go to the apple app store/google play store and download “Follow My Health” and create your account!
