Can you even make meat shredding claws out of wood? I wasn’t sure how these would work, but after shaping, sanding, and dialing in the design, these turned out way better than I expected. Strong, functional, and honestly just a cooler alternative to the typical metal or plastic claws. This is part of my ongoing woodworking series where I take everyday kitchen tools and remake them out of wood, focusing on clean design, durability, and usability. If you’ve ever wanted to try woodworking projects like this, this one is a fun challenge and I do have plans available to make these if you're interested. Check out my link in bio to get to my Etsy page where you can find my templates.

This handmade wooden ice cream scoop is crafted from beautiful tiger maple, combining functionality with natural design. I wanted to see if a wooden scoop could actually work, and this one exceeded expectations. A unique alternative to traditional metal and plastic scoops, it brings a warm, organic feel to your kitchen while still being durable enough for everyday use. Tiger maple not only adds strength but gives this piece that signature striped grain that really stands out. If you’re into woodworking projects, handmade kitchen tools, or sustainable alternatives to plastic, this is a build worth trying. It’s a perfect mix of form and function, and a great project for anyone looking to create something both practical and unique. Plans available on my Etsy, link in bio.

This might be one of my favorite ways to use up scrapwood. Instead of tossing offcuts in the bin, I turned them into simple, durable wooden chip clips that actually work better than plastic. No springs, no hardware, just a clean, functional woodworking project that slides together and holds tight. This is the kind of project that proves you don’t need expensive materials to make something practical. Just a few scraps, a bandsaw, and a good design. If you’re into woodworking, DIY projects, or finding creative ways to use scrap wood, this one’s worth trying. Oil Plans are available on my Etsy (link in bio).

Welcome back to the series where we replace plastic in the kitchen with wood, one tool at a time. But we’ve pretty much covered all the obvious plastic ones. So now we’re building whatever you want to see. Starting with this wooden rocker pizza cutter, something usually made from metal, redesigned completely in wood. Handcrafted from hardwood, durable, functional, and built for everyday use in a real kitchen. A unique take on a pizza cutter using several woodworking techniques, bandsaw work, shaping, sanding, and food-safe finishing. Drop your ideas below. What kitchen tool should I make next?

This is one of those tools that doesn’t look like much but once you use it, you get it. It’s all about control in the pan, being able to move food exactly where you want it. This simple woodworking project makes a great gift, as well as a useful tool you'll use everyday. I’ve built a full set of simple wooden kitchen tools like this, the plans are available individually or as a bundle. Link is in my bio

This came from a single piece of wood. No glue. No hardware. No complicated joinery, this woodworking project is way simpler than it looks. Most kitchen tools are way more complicated than they need to be, this solves a problem you didn’t even realize you had. Made from scrap, designed with intention, and built to actually get used. If you’ve ever burned your fingers grabbing toast… this one’s for you. Plans are available if you want to make your own, link in bio.

This is why we don't throw our scraps away. Most people toss this stuff. Meanwhile it's perfect for small, functional builds like these butter & jam spreaders. Take your scraps from the tablesaw and glue them up to create visually interesting spreaders like these. This simple woodworking project makes a great gift and an even better tool in the kitchen. If you wanted to try these out for yourself I have plans available, linked in my bio.

Re-thinking the potato masher. Most people wouldn’t even consider making something like this out of wood, and honestly, I wasn’t sure it would work either. The biggest challenge wasn’t the shape, it was designing something that could actually be used, cleaned, and hold up over time. This one took some time to think up, but that’s kind of the point of this series now, not just replacing plastic, but rethinking what belongs in our kitchens in the first place. If you would like to see a template for this one let me know!
