Did you know that about 1.1 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease (PD)? 🌷

🧠 This progressive brain disorder is perhaps most well known for causing tremors, but other symptoms include loss of vocal volume, sleep disruptions, stiffness, and balance issues, among others.

Easter was filled with smiles, laughter, and sweet springtime memories! 🐣🌸 Our residents had such a wonderful time watching the children enjoy their Easter egg hunt. It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. 👔 Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. ☕ Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

Ms. Amy, a beloved resident here at Rensselaer Care Center, has made great progress with physical therapy! 👏 While she was always able to walk independently, she wanted to improve her endurance and feel safer during longer outings with family.

Now, Ms. Amy can walk over 800 feet with a rolling walker, safely navigate ramps and stairs, pick items up from the floor, and handle uneven surfaces with confidence. Her family has shared how proud they are of her increased strength, safety, and independence. 🎉

"If you want to get better, you have to do it," said Ms. Amy.

Ms. Amy continues to thrive — enjoying activities, outings, and even completing her exercises on her own each day. We're so proud of you, Ms. Amy! ❤️
