About the Play
Shadow Liberation uses shadows and audience participation to tackle harm and repair in communities. This student-devised production blends drama therapy and shadow theatre to create space for exploring situations around gender, sexuality, violence and joy. Actors use their bodies to form evocative shadows, allowing for layered storytelling that avoids graphic depictions while conveying emotional impact. But Shadow Liberation is more than a performance. Audience members can actively participate and even take to the stage to intervene in the drama. This interactive format, Forum Theatre, empowers communities to explore ways to prevent assault, seek repair and become active in creating a safer environment.
This show is created by Community Based Theatre and Sociodrama students at Antioch University Seattle.
