At Valley, the compassion of our caregivers shows up in even the smallest details.

The surgical team for gynecologic surgeon Dr. Olga Valieva even puts a little extra love into the bandages they use for their patients’ robotic surgeries. Usually, they cut them into hearts, but for some recent surgeries during the holiday season, surgery tech Melissa made dressings in the shape of snowmen!

“It lets them know that the amount of care we put into the whole surgery is the same amount we cared about the way the dressings looked when they went home,” she said.

Congratulations to Madeleine Murfin-Bond, an RN on 3N, for winning the DAISY award!

Madeleine's nomination reads:

In my 14 years of working in the medical field, I've encountered many dedicated professionals but rarely someone as passionate, thoughtful and deeply compassionate as Maddy. Recently we had a patient who was scheduled to transition to hospice care the following day. Without being asked, Maddy took the beautiful initiative to take the patient outside to feel sunshine one last time. That simple but profound gesture captured the essence of true nursing, kindness, humanity and connection. Her act of compassion left a lasting impression on all of us and more importantly brought a moment of peace and joy to someone in their final hours. Kudos to Maddy for her incredible heart and the joy she brings to patient care. She is a shining example of what it means to be a nurse.

Congratulations to Amelia Hanron, Infection Preventionist, for winning a BEE award!

Amelia's nomination reads:

It's hard to overstate the impact Amelia Hanron has had on our department, our hospital, and our patients. Since April 2024, Amelia has not only carried the Infection Prevention program through significant transitions, she has elevated it. What sets Amelia apart is how she shows up every single day with unwavering focus and collaboration. and humility, even as she's grown into an incredibly strong clinical expert. While learning the full scope of her professional role, she has also been the steady force bringing teams together, streamlining workflows, and uniting our mission to keep staff and patients safe. From frontline staff to executives, Amelia is now a go-to infection prevention consultant across Valley. Her background in public health and as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) gives her a unique lens; one rooted in precision, evidence, and systems thinking. She uses that perspective to identify risks, support data-informed decisions, and guide meaningful interventions hospital-wide. With the onboarding of new staff, Amelia has been central to the training, mentoring, and structure that now supports a stronger, more unified IP team. Quite simply: we couldn't have done this without her. Amelia embodies everything this award stands for; dedication, excellence, and being the quiet yet essential force behind safe, quality care. She deserves to be recognized, not just for holding the line, but for transforming it.

Congratulations to Pushpa Dutt, a PCA in General Medicine, for winning the BEE award!

Pushpa's nomination reads:

I have sustained numerous hospital recoveries over the years. Most all are the result of military combat injuries and medical conditions. Many of my hospital inpatient stays have been at VMC. During all my stays at VMC, the doctors, Nurses and PAC's have been exceptional. During my current stay, Pushpa has shown sincere care, understanding, and concern for my recovery. She frequently checked on my well-being with a cheerful disposition. Knowing the doctor wanted me to walk three times per day, she reminded me of the doctor's orders and walked with me. She made a difference in the last day of my stay at VMC hospital.

The holidays can be a tender time—especially for those remembering a loved one.

Each year, LifeNet Health partners with hospitals across Washington to create Tree of Life memorials, honoring people whose legacy lives on through the gift of tissue donation.
Our Tree of Life is displayed in the main lobby throughout the holiday season, serving as a place of reflection, remembrance, and gratitude—and a reminder that one selfless act can be the gift of life for another.
