WSPA was honored to join the Ethiopian Community in Seattle Health Fair on Saturday, Dec. 6!

Our team partnered with the UW School of Pharmacy—including Operation Heart, Operation Diabetes, and Operation Immunizations—to provide essential health services such as:

👉 Blood pressure screenings
👉 Diabetes education
👉 COVID-19 & flu vaccinations (with thanks to Tukwila Station Pharmacy!)

A huge thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and community members who made this event such an impactful day.

Recent CDC publications and discussions have directly added to vaccine hesitancy. Decades of research, including more than 40 high-quality studies with 5.6 million people across seven countries, show no link between vaccines and autism. Vaccine safety continues to be rigorously studied, and suggesting that evidence is lacking undermines confidence in one of modern medicine’s greatest achievements.

Who’s at Risk: Identifying Herpes Zoster Vulnerability in Pharmacy Settings

More than 99% of adults aged 50+ have had varicella zoster virus, and for about 1 in 3, it may reactivate as shingles. Risk increases with age, but common chronic conditions—such as diabetes, COPD, asthma, CKD, and CVD—also play a role.

This session will help pharmacists:
• Understand risk factors and clinical presentation
• Recognize complications and burden of disease
• Review CDC recommendations for HZ vaccination
• Apply best practices for improving adult vaccination uptake

The WSPA is a state pharmacy association that represents its pharmacist, technician, student and corporate members at a state level and at a national level through affiliation with national pharmacy associations including American Pharmacists Association, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and National Community Pharmacists Association. The WSPA also works in conjunction with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, American College of Apothecaries, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
