In honor of National Nutrition Month we wanted to spend some more time getting to know Julie, Julie is our amazing Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)

Check out the questions and answers below~

✨ What inspired you to become a dietitian, and what do you love most about working with our residents?

🌸 Julie: I originally wanted to be a zoo veterinarian, but the job prospects weren't very good. I was a distance athlete, in high school and college. Nutrition was an important part of my training, so I decided to shift my major to nutrition. Early on I had a private practice and a part time job as a RD a tiny Long Term Care facility in Burien. I loved the opportunity that LTC allows you time to get to know residents and make a difference in their stay.

✨ What is one nutrition tip you wish everyone—especially seniors—knew?

🌸 Julie: Adequate hydration is important and when the body is compromised and you are acutely ill it doesn't matter where the calories come from... start with getting enough energy, then focus on carbohydrate and protein.

✨ What is your favorite healthy food or meal, and why do you love it?

🌸 Julie: Flank Steak marinated in soy sauce, garlic, chili powder & chili oil, green beans, and French bread with butter. Dessert would be a traditional egg custard topped with strawberries.
