April SROMs bring May moms! I wonder what June will bring? VFM has a busy OB floor - most residents will easily deliver 100 babies by graduation! Our awesome labor and delivery nurses recently started decorating the hallway with seasonal designs. This one was so cute! Thank you to our amazing nurses for all the hard work they do, helping moms bring babies into the world!

This week we remembered with gratitude all the patients at VFM who passed away in the past year. We read their names, lit a candle, and shared memories of each person we got to know. We remembered each patient’s personality and their families who we also got to know. The provider - patient relationship is unique and special. Some patients we’ve known for years from clinic visits. Others, only a few days in the hospital. But each and every patient has taught us so much, and helped shape us into the providers we are today. We’d like express a heartfelt thank you to all the people who walked through Valley Medical Center’s doors and chose us as their provider. At VFM we believe it’s important to have dedicated time and space to process and grieve patients we have lost. If you have recently lost a patient, please take a moment to remember them, and say goodbye. Sometimes it’s helpful to write a card to their family. You could write a poem in their memory. You could say a prayer. Whatever you choose to do, give yourself grace and be kind to yourself - every physician chooses this path to save as many lives as possible, and ease pain and suffering. We are allowed to feel our patients pain and take time to heal ourselves. 🤍💚

VFM shares our love of OB with University of Washington FMIG members in their first year of medical school.

Dr. Maikha Jean-Baptiste (faculty, FM with surgical OB) taught cervical dilation, Dr. Amanda Kim (faculty, FM with surgical OB) and Dr. Kelsie Walczak (PGY-2) simulated vaginal deliveries, and Dr. Sarah Maitre (program director, FMOB) and Dr. Kelly Herbig (PGY-1) taught postpartum hemorrhage. Can YOU estimate the blood loss?

VFM hosts University of Washington MS-3 clinical rotations as well as MS-4 acting internships for students from various schools. Interested in an acting internship? Email us at familymedicine@valleymed.org!

This is what Valley looks like in April every year 🌸 The patients can see the cherry trees from their rooms. Seeing patterns with the cherry blossoms in their window is my favorite time of the year. I look forward to it every time! This is the healing garden, and I can confirm that seeing the pink flowers slowly float down around you will make your day! ☀️ 🌸
