On World Food Day, we’re proud to share how our teams are pitching in. Through October and November, our Kaiser Permanente teams in Washington are rolling up our sleeves to support Food Lifeline (Western WA) and Second Harvest (Spokane) to sort, repack, and move nutritious food for our neighbors. Sharing a big shout out to Regional President Cynthia Dold and Kaiser Permanente and Washington Permanente Medical Group leaders who volunteered their time, along with the organizations that make this work possible every day.
This effort builds on Kaiser Permanente’s long-standing commitment to food and nutrition security in our communities to help get healthy food to more people who need it.

Today is .
As parents we fly solo a lot, but having “your people” changes everything.
Dr. Susanna Block, pediatrician at Capitol Hill Medical Center, reminds us that parent networks aren’t a nice-to-have, they’re part of healthy parenting. A small circle can help with real-life answers, navigating school systems, swapping rides, and having a safe, non-judgmental place to vent and laugh. Nearly half of parents report feeling overwhelmed by stress; connection helps us cope and feel less alone.
Where to start: say hello to two parents at pickup, suggest a park meetup, or join a local parents’ group (PTA, PEPS, faith/community groups). Try a simple coffee hour, no hosting needed. If you don’t see the group you need, invite two families and make one together.
Your mental health matters. When parents feel supported, it’s easier to be intentional, patient, and to find joy with our kids.
In this FOX 13 Healthy Living segment, Dr. Patricia Egwuatu, family medicine physician at Capitol Hill Medical Center, broke down two easy wins: pumpkin and cinnamon!
What’s your favorite fall add-in?

If you’ve sat up at 2am wondering what to do… this is for you.
A calm checklist for late-night kid care including what to check, comfort steps, and when to call or visit.
A fever is one way the body fights illness. Watch for symptoms and how your child acts when deciding whether your child needs to see a doctor.
➡️ Start simple: if you have a thermometer, check their temperature. Are they drinking okay and peeing/wetting diapers like usual? Watch their breathing and how alert/comfortable they seem. For temperature: under 3 months with 100.4°F (38°C) or higher - call your doctor now; 3 months or older with 104°F (40°C) or higher, seek care.
And trust your gut, if something feels off, it’s absolutely okay to call.
➡️ While you watch and wait, keep comfort front and center: offer tiny sips every few minutes (water, breastmilk, formula, or oral rehydration), keep the room cool and quiet with light layers, cuddle and keep them a little upright, try a humidifier/steam if it helps. You can use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever or discomfort, strictly follow the label and your care team’s guidance.
➡️ Call your care team/advice line if they’re working hard to breathe or breathing fast, can’t keep fluids down, seem much sleepier than usual or hard to wake, or if your gut says, “not right.” Kaiser Permanente members: your 24/7 advice line is 1-800-297-6877 or 206-630-2244 (TTY 711).
➡️ Head to urgent care/ER now if there’s severe trouble breathing or blue/gray lips/skin, signs of dehydration (very dry mouth, no tears, far fewer wet diapers/pee), worsening symptoms, or you just can’t manage at home.
➡️ Keep an eye on progress: if your child is under 3 months and the fever isn’t down after 24 hours, or 3 months or older and not down after 48 hours, contact your doctor and follow their instructions.
Save this for peace of mind. And if you have a 2am parenting tip that helps your family get through the night, share it so another parent sees it when they need it. 💙

For parents and light sleepers: noise color matters.
White masks everything, pink is gentler (think rain), brown is deepest (like a soft rumble). Test at low volume and see which sound helps you sleep better.
