💬 How do we help children feel confident speaking French ? 🦚
We create playful and meaningful opportunities for children to feel eager to speak and interact in French. This week, they cooked a seasonal vegetable soup and discovered new words related to the action verbs of the recipe, the utensils, and the ingredients. This hands-on activity sparked their curiosity and prompted many questions such as, “What are the steps to follow ?” and “What will the soup taste like ?”, giving real purpose to their use of French. Working in small groups also helps children feel comfortable : it’s easier to speak and take risks when you feel at ease and listened to. Everyone has many opportunities to listen, speak, and share their enthusiasm with others. We also reinforce this learning through songs, stories, and games, which make practicing French both natural and fun, while nurturing the confidence they need to express themselves freely.

💬 How do children practice speaking French while exploring autumn treasures ? 🍂
As they explore, the children enrich their vocabulary by naming their discoveries : pomme de pin, feuille, mousse, gland…
Together, we observe, touch, compare, and name these natural treasures, making language learning lively and concrete. During creative activities, the children reuse these words to describe their nature-inspired artwork. Using the phrase “Je vois…”, they practice forming short, complete sentences to present their creations (for example : Je vois une feuille jaune et deux pommes de pin.).
To reinforce this vocabulary, we play card games or organize a treasure hunt to find these natural elements.

💬How nature sparks language growth in French? 🍂
Through their discoveries, children practice forming simple sentences that they can reuse during games or to describe what they observe.
This week, inspired by the leaves on the ground, we played an oral language game where the children described their collection of leaves using the French phrase “Il y a…” (for example: Il y a trois feuilles. - “There are three leaves.”). We then read a beautiful book and reused the same sentence structure “Il y a…” to describe the illustrations made with autumn leaves. Next, we expanded our sentences by adding adjectives (Il y a deux petits poissons jaunes. - “There are two little yellow fish.”). Finally, we created our own leaf artworks! The children were so proud to describe their creations in French.
