Meowdy -

I heard last week was spring break for a lot of our patients! It was a little quieter in the office, but I know everyone was enjoying themselves! We didn't have too much excitement other than the weather going bonkers! Snow on Sunday, and 90+ on Friday.

I didn't have to worry too much; I had the AC system in the clinic to keep me cool. But did you know that those kinds of weather changes can be pretty hard on animals that must live outside? Even though the weather got warmer, most of the horses weren't actually ready for the change! A lot of them still have some parts of their winter coats. Can you imagine being out in that heat in a winter coat?

The equine team did a great job taking care of them, but maybe (just this time) they deserve a little extra scratch from you guys... DON'T tell them I sent you though.

🐎 New Horse Introduction! Meet Hank! 🐎

Hank is the newest addition to the equine team at Dynamic Strides. A former Amish cart horse, he came to us through a local family and has been on site for about six weeks. During that time, he’s been adjusting to experiences that were new to him—especially cross ties and arena aisles, however, he’s taken to arena work with ease and has already begun some ground training with one of our patients.

While we’re not certain of his exact breeding, we do know he’s an older teenage draft cross with a strong work history and a calm, unhurried demeanor. He’s currently the tallest and heaviest horse on the property, and we’re excited to see how our therapists will utilize his big, steady walk and forward movement.

Right now, Hank is easy to spot in the field, as he’s growing out his tail after it was previously trimmed for harness work. If you see him in the field, be sure to say hello and help welcome him to the team!

🧪✨ Science + Play = Powerful Therapy! ✨🧪

At Dynamic Strides, we love turning learning into hands-on fun! Recently, one of our kiddos explored simple science experiments in the sunshine —mixing, bubbling, and discovering how things work. 💡

These activities aren’t just exciting—they help build:
🔹 Fine motor skills
🔹 Problem-solving abilities
🔹 Communication & social interaction
🔹 Sensory exploration

From colorful reactions to fizzy surprises, every experiment was a chance to grow, learn, and smile! 😊

Meowdy –

Apparently, I can’t tell anybody anything. I thought that I got to just be friends with this black cat… Turns out when I tell people that I have friends around for too long they have to be “neutered” and “vaccinated”. I don’t even get to be the only one with a collar anymore! The staff did say I don’t have to share the inside of the building... but this is the price you pay for consistent food and a warm bed.

So… I guess this guy is around now. If you see him you don’t have to act like you like him. It’s okay to let him figure this place out on his own.

💥 Employee Spotlight on Lily 💥

Today we want to share some amazing news from our lesson program. Our horsemanship instructor, Lily, is an active member of the Missouri State University Equestrian Team. This last month has been a busy one for both the team, and for Lily. They completed their last show of the season and held their regional championship show. The team overall was very successful, earning a Regional Championship, and Lily was just as successful individually. At their final show of the year, Lily eared a 1st place in both Reining and Open Horsemanship, and in the regional show, Lily earned an individual 1st in Ranch Riding and Open Horsemanship. Her biggest accomplishment however was achieving Regional High Point Rider for the season. Our riders are blessed to have such a skilled instructor working with them. Please help us congratulate Lily and the MSU Equestrian Team on a job well done this season!

🌸 Spring is in the air ☀️

The birds are singing, the days are getting longer… and the whole herd is shedding like it’s their full-time job 🐴😅

This time of year there’s nothing better than warm sunshine, muddy boots, and a pasture full of fuzzy horses turning sleek again.

💥 Student Spotlight on Riley 💥

Today we want to introduce a face that will be treating with us for a little bit. Riley is a Cox College Occupational Therapy Master’s Program student. She is in her first Level II clinical experience, which means she will be taking over treatment around the clinic soon! When Riley is not at DST or studying for school, she enjoys spending time with her friends and her dog, playing golf and cooking. Please help us welcome Riley while she learns and grows in our facility.

💥Employee Spotlight on Ashlyn 💥

Today we introduce Ashlyn, our new volunteer coordinator. Ashlyn brings a wealth of experience in both non-profit and the equine world to her role at Dynamic Strides. Ashlyn has over 10 years of equine experience, including 5 years of instructing riding lessons, horsemanship sessions, and summer camps at a local lesson barn. In addition to her equine experience, she has a long history providing education and support to volunteers in a variety of settings. She is excited to bring those two worlds together in support of DST’s mission and vision to serve the community.

Outside of her time in the barn, Ashlyn enjoys sewing and crafting, thrifting and spending time with her cats, Chai and Junebug. She is also the caretaker for a collection of over 70 houseplants!

Please help us welcome Ashlyn to the DST Team!

💥 Employee Spotlight on Paige 💥

Today we celebrate Paige’s one year anniversary with Dynamic Strides Therapy. In her first year with us Paige has made a huge impact on our Speech Therapy team. She is a kind and inclusive therapist who works hard to be sure that her patients, and all of the DST families, feel safe, supported, and included. She has stretched her comfort zone by stepping into the arena for some hippotherapy sessions and has excelled at use of that specialty service. A lifelong student, Paige is also taking an advanced feeding course to bring more specialty support to our patients. We are excited to have Paige as a part of DST and look forward to the growth and opportunities she brings to our therapy team in the years to come.

If you see Paige out and about, help us celebrate her one-year anniversary in style!

Meowdy –

Hello friends! I am back and fully rested from my encounter with the neighborhood roving cat. In a twist of fate, I have decided that he is actually a friend, so no harm no foul… But he’s welcome in the pastures now.

This week I have been told that there will be some special events going on in the facility to correspond with the Paralympics! I don’t know what that means, but apparently some of the therapists are a little obsessed with curling and are trying to find a way to include training for their Olympic dreams with their day jobs. I’m not holding my breath but check out the clinic this week for some Paralympic dream fulfillment opportunities. I’m taking a nap to prepare.

💥Employee Spotlight on Abigail 💥

Today we want to take a moment to introduce Abigail, our Equine Assistant. Abigail comes to Dynamic Strides with a solid history and experience in the equine assisted services world. Abigail graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Equestrian Studies with a focus in Therapeutic Riding from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. She obtained her Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor credential (CTRI) in 2018 and has been working in the industry since then. She brings experience from Veterans, adult and youth programming to her role assisting with the hippotherapy program here at DST.

Abigail and her husband transitioned from St Louis to the Springfield area recently for his educational journey, and they are are loving the slower pace of life here. When Abigail isn't involved with therapy services or teaching riding lessons, she enjoys hiking, reading, snuggling with her cats and occasionally fox hunting with the Ozark Highland Hounds.

If you see Abigail out and about, please take a moment to help us welcome her to the DST team!
