This may come as a shock for many but about a year ago I started the process to be listed to receive a kidney donation. Chronic kidney disease has put me into kidney failure and have recently started dialysis.
So, what does that mean... I need a kidney donor.
There are two types of kidney donors: deceased donors and living donors. Organs from living donors last longer, typically twice as long as from a deceased donor kidney.
Requirements to become a living donor:
* Be 18 years or older
* Good physical and emotional health
In our area the typical wait time for a kidney donor is 4-8 YEARS.
