Thanksgiving may be over, but your eyes might still be feeling it.
Between long drives, late nights, travel fatigue, dry indoor heat, or a few too many hours of screen time during downtime—your vision goes through a lot this time of year.

👁️ Here’s what we recommend post-holiday to give your eyes a little TLC:
✔️ Hydrate more (dehydration = dry eye)
✔️ Take a break from screens for at least a few hours
✔️ Gently remove all makeup or contacts before bed
✔️ Book your annual eye exam if you haven’t already

The holidays are demanding—and your eyes deserve some recovery time, too. If your vision feels off or your eyes are still irritated after the holiday rush, let’s check in.

Ever noticed that bright lights seem to bother some people more than others? It might have something to do with their eye color.

People with lighter-colored eyes—like blue, gray, or green—tend to be more sensitive to light because they have less pigment in the iris to block out harsh rays.

☀️ That means sunglasses aren’t just for summer. Even during a cloudy fall day in Reston, UV rays can still cause damage.
👓 Protect your eyes year-round with 100% UV-blocking sunglasses and a quick annual checkup.

Did you know that declining vision is associated with higher levels of anxiety, depression, and social withdrawal—especially in adults over 50?

Vision loss or even subtle changes in sight can limit your independence, strain your relationships, and reduce your confidence in ways you might not immediately recognize.

The good news: proactive eye care helps maintain more than just vision—it protects your overall wellbeing.
📍 If something feels “off,” let’s start with your eyes. It might be the clarity you didn’t know you needed.

Holiday events, photos, and colder weather usually mean more eye makeup—and while it’s fun to get festive, it’s important to apply with care.

Eye makeup products like mascara, eyeliner, and glitter can cause irritation, styes, or even infections—especially if they’re expired or applied too close to the lash line. Contact lens wearers are especially at risk.

💄 A few tips from our eye care team:
- Always remove makeup completely before bed
- Toss mascara after 3 months
- Never share products with others
- Avoid applying directly on the waterline

If you’re noticing irritation, dry eyes, or bumps along your eyelid—schedule a quick exam to rule out any issues.

This time of year, we’re hearing from more and more patients who say: “I just want to enjoy the holidays without dealing with glasses or contacts.”

And the good news is—you can.
LASIK (and other vision correction procedures like PRK and Refractive Lens Exchange) can give you the clarity and convenience you’ve been craving. Imagine not worrying about fogged lenses during a chilly walk, losing a contact while traveling, or needing to pack solution for your Thanksgiving trip.

🍂 You bring the pie—we’ll take care of the prescription.
📞 Schedule a consultation with our Reston team and find out if LASIK is right for you.

Whether you’re heading across town or out of state to see family this Thanksgiving, travel can take a toll on your eyes.

Flying? Dry cabin air and disrupted sleep can worsen symptoms of dry eye. Driving? Long hours behind the wheel increase eye strain, especially in lower fall light. If you wear contacts, changing environments or skipped routines may also increase irritation.

✈️ Here’s what to keep in your travel bag:
✔️ Lubricating eye drops (especially preservative-free)
✔️ Backup glasses and lens solution
✔️ Sunglasses with UV protection
✔️ Your next eye appointment already scheduled 😉

Let’s keep your eyes happy—wherever the season takes you.

Many patients are surprised to learn that their annual eye exam can reveal signs of high blood pressure—even before they’ve been officially diagnosed.

That’s because the retina contains small blood vessels that can become damaged due to elevated pressure in the body. This condition, known as hypertensive retinopathy, often has no symptoms at first but can lead to vision loss if left untreated.

👁️ A comprehensive eye exam with our team doesn’t just protect your vision—it’s a window into your overall health. Whether you’ve been diagnosed with hypertension or just want to be proactive, we’re here to help.

If you’ve noticed yourself squinting at menus, struggling to read Thanksgiving recipes, or tilting your head to see the TV more clearly, it might be time to check your vision.

We tend to brush off these changes during the holidays because we’re busy—but small shifts in clarity can be signs of early cataracts, prescription changes, or even more serious eye conditions. And with shorter daylight hours and dim indoor lighting, the strain becomes even more noticeable this time of year.

A simple eye exam could be all it takes to help you move through the season with ease and confidence.
📍 Located right here in Reston, our team is ready to help you see the full picture this season.

November is Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month—a reminder that your eyes may be showing signs of diabetes before you feel anything else.
Diabetic retinopathy is one of the most common causes of preventable vision loss, and in its early stages, it can be completely silent. That’s why annual dilated eye exams are so important for people with diabetes or prediabetes.

At NewView Eye Center, we use advanced retinal imaging and personalized monitoring plans to detect changes early—before symptoms show up. If caught in time, many diabetic eye conditions can be managed effectively to protect your long-term vision.

👁️ Serving patients in Reston and throughout Northern Virginia, we’re here to help you stay ahead of vision loss—before it starts.
