is an irregular or rapid heartbeat, also known as atrial fibrillation (AFib), often triggered by binge drinking. Alcohol consumption tends to spike between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day so, while holiday heart syndrome can happen any time of year, it's most common during the holiday season. And it can show up when you least expect it — especially after too much alcohol, stress or salty food — so be on the lookout for these warning signs:

😴 Fatigue
😵‍💫 Dizziness
💓 Heart palpitations
😮‍💨 Difficulty breathing
💢 Chest discomfort

Can by can, row by row, Reston Hospital colleagues came together to create our "souper" heart structure made from Chunky Soup cans to celebrate our open-heart program being launched.

That same patience, strategy and cross-functional collaboration have come together to build this complex surgery program from the ground up. Reston Hospital has been painstakingly working through the process to ensure that we provide the highest level of care that the community has come to expect from our facility.

And our patients and the community are always at the heart of our actions. All of these cans were recently donated to Cornerstones to support their food drive efforts during the holiday season to feed those in need.

Thank you to our patients and to our colleagues for continuing to be the heart of Reston Hospital and the heart of the community!

The "Straight A" designation goes to hospitals that have earned an "A" in at least five consecutive cycles of the Hospital Safety Grade, demonstrating our sustained dedication to patient safety.

The physicians, nurses, leaders and colleagues at Reston Hospital are focused on providing high-quality, safe, compassionate care to our patients and families each and every day.

During the holiday season, Reston Hospital colleagues show their gratitude to the community and give back in several ways. Annually, we participate in a food drive, supporting Cornerstones since we know 1 in 8 families struggle with food insecurity. And this year, not only did we collect 1,100 lbs of food, but we were fortunate to partner with Cornerstones by volunteering at their FREE from Hunger Center unpacking, sorting, and weighing food being dropped off by so many generous community organizations.

No matter what you’ve got cooking this , remember to prioritize safety. In crowded kitchens and around deep fryers, accidents can happen fast. Each year around Thanksgiving, there’s an increase in cooking-related burn injuries, and unattended cooking is the primary cause, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Follow these tips for what to avoid if you or someone else needs .

If you suffer a mild or first-degree burn, the affected area may swell or turn red. You can treat these burns at home with simple first aid steps:

🧼Clean the area with soap and cool water.
🧴Apply a thin layer of ointment.
🩹Dress the wound with sterile non-stick gauze.
💊Take over-the-counter medication to manage pain.

For more serious burns, immediate medical attention is critical. You can always find help fast at your local emergency room — but for complex cases, specialized care is available through our broader HCA Healthcare network, home to 11 American Burn Association-recognized burn centers across nine states.

Have you heard of ? They’re small areas of dense, rounded lung tissue that go undetected for most people, although they’re often found during imaging tests, like a CT-scan or an X-ray. While generally these nodules are not cancerous, the American Lung Association stresses the importance of getting them checked, as they could be an early sign of lung cancer.

You may have a higher risk of developing lung nodules if you’ve had any of the following:
🦠Bacterial or viral infections
🏭Exposure to air pollution
🫁Chronic inflammatory conditions
🚬Tobacco use
🎗️Cancer
