Last weekend, Reston Hospital sponsored the 6th Annual Reston Runway to the Cure Fashion Show that took place at Reston Town Center. It was an inspirational event that featured designer fashions modeled by brave community members who have survived or are currently in treatment for breast cancer. The proceeds of the event go towards raising awareness and support for national breast cancer research, and for assistance programs for local breast cancer warriors.

Prescription drug abuse remains a critical drug problem across the United States, affecting all age groups. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA , pain relievers are the most commonly misused prescription drug by those over the age of 12. Community members can play a vital role in reducing prescription drug misuse by disposing of expired or unnecessary prescription drugs.

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, help us by cleaning out your medicine cabinet and safely disposing of medications that may be left over from previous procedures or other medical visits. Law enforcement officers from Fairfax County Police Department will be onsite at Reston Hospital Center and Tysons Emergency from 10am to 2pm to accept your medications.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we pay special attention to encouraging you to follow through on regular screenings, including annual mammograms if you are 40 or older. Women whose breast cancer is detected at an early stage have a 93 percent or higher survival rate in the first five years.

During a recent Wellness Wednesday segment with WUSA9's Great Day Washington, a Reston Hospital Center breast cancer patient and StoneSprings Hospital Center mammogram tech shared their experiences, as well as the importance of scheduling your regular mammogram and getting checked out if you detect a change in your breasts.

screening looks different at every age. Experts recommend that you start talking with your doctor about your personal risk of breast cancer as early as age 25. Depending on your family history or other factors, you may qualify for genetic counseling, earlier screening or both.

If you have a higher risk of breast cancer, screening may begin as early as age 30, or 10 years before the age a close relative was diagnosed. Because each person’s health needs are unique, it’s important to talk with your doctor about a personalized approach to screening.

Organizations that set medical screening guidelines now universally recommend starting mammogram screening at age 40 if you have an average risk of breast cancer. Across our broader HCA Healthcare network, caregivers perform approximately 1.5 million mammograms each year, helping patients take proactive steps toward early detection and better outcomes. We are committed to making our communities safer and healthier. In an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of prescription drug misuse and importance of safe disposal, we’re joining HCA Healthcare hospitals across the nation for our seventh annual Crush the Crisis Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event, which coincides with the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA 's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offers the community an opportunity to safely and anonymously dispose of medications that may be unused from previous procedures or other medical visits.

In 2024, HCA Healthcare joined local law enforcement at 125 collection sites to collect and properly dispose of more than 21,000 pounds of unused or expired medications – the equivalent of an estimated 14.5 million doses.

Positively impacting our community takes teamwork. Help us on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 10:00am to 2:00pm, by safely and anonymously dropping off your medications at Reston Hospital Center or Tysons Emergency. Learn more: https://bit.ly/46WdXGS.
