Quitting drinking or drugging doesn’t fix your life. It opens your life.

A lot of people come into recovery thinking, “If I just stop using, everything will get better.”

But sobriety alone isn’t the solution. It’s the starting point.

And once the substances are gone, it can feel raw. Exposed. Uncomfortable. Like you’re walking around without armor. That discomfort doesn’t mean you’re doing recovery wrong. It usually means the real work has begun.

Here’s the truth most people don’t talk about:

-Nearly 40–60% of people relapse without ongoing support
-Recovery improves dramatically when emotional, behavioral, and accountability work is involved
-The people who stay sober aren’t just abstinent. They’re actively changing how they live.

What the real work actually looks like:

✔️ Learning why you used, not just stopping
✔️ Addressing trauma, patterns, and emotional triggers
✔️ Building structure, accountability, and honest relationships
✔️ Showing up consistently… even when it’s uncomfortable
✔️ Letting others walk with you instead of doing it alone

Sobriety can feel uncomfortable because growth is uncomfortable. But discomfort is not failure. Stagnation is.

We don’t just help people quit substances. We help them do the work that makes sobriety stick.
Sobriety isn’t the goal.
Freedom is.

📺 America in Crisis: Breaking the Cycle of Addiction

In this episode of America in Crisis, the conversation centers on the real human impact of addiction and what it truly takes to break the cycle.

Host David Hunt sits down with Matthew Parlante, Recovery Advocate at Power of Recovery, who brings firsthand insight from the front lines of recovery support.

Matthew speaks openly about the barriers individuals and families face, the importance of meeting people where they are, and how structure, accountability, and community play a critical role in long-term recovery.

This powerful conversation is an honest reminder that recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. With the right support, hope becomes action — and change becomes possible.

💛 Recovery is possible. Help is real. And no one has to do this alone.

In recovery, hope is often the first thing lost and the last thing believed.

After relapse, regret, and disappointment, hope can feel unrealistic.

But hope isn’t wishful thinking.
It’s where recovery begins.

If this resonates, you’re not alone and you don’t have to do this by yourself.

Hope is what allows you to:
*Make the first phone call
*Walk through the door for the first time
*Believe that this attempt could be different
*Stay one more day when quitting feels easier

Hope IS a strategy 🤍 Recovery starts with connection.

Alex’s Day One didn’t look like a “Movie Moment”…. and that’s the point.

Alex didn’t wake up on the worst day of his addiction. There were no fireworks. No dramatic turning point. Just another dark, lonely day… and one small decision to ask for help one more time.

That was his Day One.

Alex’s story reminds us that:

-Everyone’s path into recovery looks different
-Day One doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be honest
-Progress often starts quietly, with a moment of clarity and courage

Nearly 14 years later, that single step changed everything: restored family relationships, meaningful work, service to others, freedom, and a life he once couldn’t imagine.

There’s no single way to start recovery but every journey begins with a step toward something better.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you don’t have to wait for a breaking point. Reach out. We’re here when you’re ready. 💙🧡

🎙️ After Show Podcast Recap (KISS 108)
Power of Recovery x Power of Hope

Justin kicked things off by calling us out for not inviting him to the Power of Hope grand opening… which quickly turned into a full-on roast about sweatshirts, diets, and “get-well jobs.” 😅

But the best moment? A listener shared that after hearing the guys on air, she reached out to Power of Hope, our new facility in Danvers, to get support for her teenagers—and you could hear just how much that moment hit home.

Real talk. Real laughs. Real impact. 💙🧡
