What is YOUR VALUE ? Ever doubted your worth or had someone question your pricing?
That happened to me the other day, and It made me think. I do not doubt my value as a therapist or life coach, but sometimes we don't really value who we are, and what we bring to the world.
I have worked in the counseling and coaching fields for over 30 years. During that time I attended multiple colleges and certification trainings, and completed over 6,000 hours of paid supervision. I've worked hard to develop my skills, overcome personal struggles, and help others do the same.
In California, in the 90s, I worked in a nonprofit inpatient addiction treatment program for over three years and for minimum wage. I commuted 100 miles a day over winding mountain roads. I learned a lot those three years. I learned how to be more confident. I learned to connect better with people. At that time I was in recovery from alcoholism for 6 years and I could still feel the rigors of early detox and recovery in my soul.
I bring this experience up because at this point in my training, I barely made my gas money for my trip to work. But I was determined and motivated to learn as much as I could, and to obtain certification and beyond. I I like to think I paid my "dues."
Over the years I have done many free counseling sessions and trauma processing sessions. I have worked for minimum wage or less, driven thousands of miles for free, given up weekends, and time with family, spent any extra money I had on furthering my skills. This is what it takes.
I bring over 30 years of experience in helping myself and others. I bring a history of my own motivation, determination and ability to walk through fire to get where I wanted to go. My value lies in my expertise, determination, and ability to walk the talk. 💕 So, what's your value? Invest in yourself and your goals - it's worth it!
