One of the most common retained reflexes is actually Babinski. There is so much misconception on this. This reflex is tested so often by many medical professionals for many reasons from birth to old age, however it is not tested on a subtle level. There should not be any movement whatsoever in testing and furthermore there are many levels of testing this reflex and sometimes professionals look for a large response when retention doesn’t necessarily show a huge response. For example, in higher levels, in which when someone walks on the outside of their feet, the hands should not have a reaction. There are also many reflexes that tie to Babinski reactions. The symptoms are surface level and the treatment can be complex. Depending on one’s response to stimulation, it can mean a large difference in the treatment plan. One easy exercise to try to do is to work on walking on the outsides and insides of the feet and then heels and toes. This will not actually integrate the reflex but it surely will build awareness on the feet that there are separate areas designed to reach separate places in the brain. It will progress the development. Different textures on the feet will also help build these receptors. Often I will suggest different obstacle course surfaces and terrain. That helps the feet learn different sensory areas.
This is all very important.
