On October 8, Governor Kathy Hochul honored ten extraordinary mental health professionals who provide care in both English and Spanish to underserved communities across New York State. We are very proud to share that two of Astor Services employees were among those recognized. Dr. Denize Da-Silva Siegel, Child Psychiatrist and former Medical Director, and Carmen Torres, Family Advocate Supervisor, were honored for their compassion, dedication, and exceptional service to children and families in need. Their recognition shines a light on the heart of Astor’s mission — to bring healing, understanding, and hope to every community we serve.

Astor’s School Based Behavioral Health and Training Program provides on-site mental health services in select public schools in the Bronx & Hudson Valley. Clinicians provide individual therapy sessions for students enrolled in the clinic during the school day so they can get support in the moment and address any challenges that may come up in the course of their day. They also run social emotional learning and skills-based groups, spend time collaborating with teachers and work to support the overall culture of mental health and wellbeing in our schools! Our programs provide Dialectical Behavior Therapy to target unsafe behavior and increase teens’ ability to build their life worth living. For more than 30 years, Astor has brought joy to families in need during the holidays through our Adopt-A-Family program.

This year, we’re proud to carry on that same heartfelt tradition under a new name: The Little Wishes Project.
