As we celebrate Social Work Month, The Brookmeade Community would also like to recognize our dedicated Social Work Assistant Cordelia.

“I became a social work assistant because I am passionate about supporting residents and improving their quality of life. Previously, I worked in the activities department, where I enjoyed spending time with residents and helping create meaningful experiences for them. Through that role I realized I wanted a more resident-focused position where I could support residents and their families on a deeper level. As a social work assistant, I am able to listen to residents concerns, advocate for their needs, and help ensure they feel comfortable, respected, and supported in their home. It is rewarding to play a role in helping residents maintain dignity, emotional well-being, and a sense of belonging within.”-Cordelia

🌟 Social Work Intern Spotlight – Social Work Month 🌟

In honor of National Social Work Month, The Brookmeade Community is proud to introduce one of our dedicated Social Work interns.

Meet Katerina, a Social Work intern working towards her master’s at Adelphi University,under the supervision of Karen Stritt, LCSW and CEO at Brookmeade! She is a dedicated social work intern from Adelphi University (Class of 2027) who is growing both personally and professionally while supporting the residents.

“I have had a highly rewarding experience interning at Brookmeade, where I have been able to grow both personally and professionally through hands-on practice in the field of social work. Working under the guidance of Karen has been particularly valuable; her mentorship and supervision have provided me with meaningful insights, practical skills, and thoughtful guidance. 🌟 Social Work Intern Spotlight – Social Work Month 🌟

In honor of National Social Work Month, The Brookmeade Community is proud to continue highlighting our dedicated Social Work interns.
Meet Polly, a Social Work intern working towards her master’s under the supervision of Karen Stritt, LCSW and CEO at Brookmeade! She is a social work intern whose gentle and caring nature helps bring comfort, connection, and smiles to the residents at The Meadows.

“I`m Pursuing a Masters in Social Work at Adelphi University with a graduation date of summer 2027.
My experience as a social work intern at The Meadows has been invaluable. Working with residents has taught me about what it means to be a social worker, but I've also learned so much about myself. With the amazing support of Karen, my supervisor at the Meadows, my confidence has grown, I've become more introspective and I feel well prepared to move on to next year's internship. The Meadows has a decidedly family feel to it and I have been supported and challenged by Karen and the staff which has helped me grow. I look forward to my internship days at The Meadows, and I know that though I will miss being there, I will be well prepared for whatever comes next.”-Polly

☘️✈️ Happy St. Patrick’s Day from The Brookmeade Community! 🇮🇪💚

Today, our Passport Program took us on a virtual flight to Ireland, and what an incredible journey it was! Residents were treated to lively Irish music by Terence Feeley, filling the room with festive spirit and smiles. 🎶

We enjoyed delicious Irish soda bread, tested our knowledge with fun trivia, played games, and shared lots of laughter along the way. It was a day full of culture, connection, and celebration!

Thank you to everyone who helped make our trip to Ireland so memorable! ☘️

🌟 Social Work Intern Spotlight – Social Work Month 🌟

In honor of National Social Work Month, The Brookmeade Community is proud to introduce one of our dedicated Social Work interns.
Meet Amy, a Social Work intern working towards her master’s under the supervision of Karen Stritt, LCSW and CEO at Brookmeade! She is a dedicated social work intern whose passion for working with older adults and love of gardening bring a unique and compassionate approach to supporting residents and families at Brookmeade.
“I am in my final year of the Masters of Social Welfare program at The University of Albany. Prior to enrolling I was a garden designer for over 20 years, and I enjoy bringing my love of plants and gardens to the practice of social work. I love working with older adults and being an intern at Brookmeade has allowed me to work with and get to know so many amazing residents. Karen has taught me to approach my social work practice here at Brookmeade from a person centered, strength-based approach, always asking what I can do as a social worker to empower and support residents and their families.”-Amy

March is National Social Work Month, and The Brookmeade Community would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our incredible Social Workers and Social Work interns who are working toward their Master’s in Social Work.

“I am pursuing my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Temple University and will graduate in December of 2027. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to start my career in Social Work at the Meadows at Brookmeade and to now complete my internship for my master’s degree here. My experience at Brookmeade has been so valuable to my personal and professional development. It is a privilege to be able to work under and have the guidance and support from my Supervisor, Karen Stritt. I am truly appreciative of the opportunities she’s given me to learn and grow, how she challenges me to think and consider different perspectives, and pushes me to achieve more. Her leadership has been inspiring and empowering to observe. The Brookmeade Community had a wonderful afternoon filled with music, dance, and a little Irish spirit!

Residents at The Meadows and The Terraces were delighted by a special performance from the Red Hook Dance & Theatre Performance Center for Adults, who shared their talents through beautiful dancing and singing. The residents truly enjoyed the lively and heartfelt performance.

After the show, we kept the Irish celebration going with an afternoon movie featuring Leap Year, while everyone enjoyed delicious Shamrock Milkshakes. It was a festive day full of smiles, entertainment, and great company! 🍀
