Brittney is demonstrating our
Yoga Pose of the Month:
Reclined Pigeon (Supta Kapotasana)
How to Get Into the Pose:
1. Begin lying on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
2. Cross your right ankle over your left thigh, just above the knee.
3. Flex the right foot to protect the knee joint.
4. Thread your hands through, clasping behind the left thigh or over the shin.
5. Gently draw the legs toward your chest, keeping shoulders and head relaxed.
6. Feel the outer right hip begin to open as you soften the breath.
7. Stay for 5–10 slow breaths, then switch sides.
Physical Benefits:
• Gently releases tension in the hips, glutes, and lower back.
• Increases flexibility in the hip rotators and piriformis.
• Relieves sciatic nerve discomfort and aids mobility in the pelvis.
• Restorative variation makes it accessible for all levels — ideal for those with tight hips or knee sensitivity.
Energetic Benefits:
• Activates the sacral chakra (Svadhisthana), our center of creativity, pleasure, and emotional flow.
• Encourages energy to move freely through the hips — an area where stagnant emotions often dwell.
• Promotes balance between groundedness and release, helping students feel rooted yet open.
Emotional Benefits:
• The hips are often called the “emotional junk drawer” of the body — this pose helps us let go of stored stress, sadness, or resistance.
• Invites emotional surrender and deep relaxation, offering a sense of spaciousness and ease.
• Encourages self-compassion — a reminder that release can happen softly, without force.
Join us in releasing a bit deeper this November. Your hips and heart will thank you!☺️
