At Cornerstone, we believe it’s important to recognize that not every relationship struggle is the same — and neither is the support people need.
Healthy conflict, communication breakdowns, and patterns of escalation can often be addressed in couples therapy when both partners are committed to change and emotional safety. But when there is coercion, control, intimidation, or abuse, the issue is no longer simply “relationship conflict.” Safety must come first.
Our clinicians take care to assess relationship dynamics thoughtfully and ethically so we can recommend the most appropriate level of support for each individual and family. Sometimes that means couples therapy. Sometimes it means individual therapy, safety planning, or other specialized resources.
These distinctions matter. Compassion matters. Safety matters.
