Our bowlers continue to show off their skill each month with our March session, providing us another exciting and highly competitive afternoon that featured several strikes. We had some new bowlers this session and a new volunteer, AJ, pictured left with his grandma Sarah and uncle Will, both longtime volunteers here. Welcome, AJ!

We had a wonderful time bidding on a variety of exciting spring items, from Easter decorations to Packers bundles! There was certainly friendly competition along with lots of laughs. What a great way to celebrate spring and enjoy time together. Thank you to everyone who donated items to our auction and to our volunteers for helping make it such a special event!

We are excited to introduce Lorna Harvey as Dove Healthcare's Director of Human Resources!

Lorna joins us with 20+ years of experience in human resources, specializing in leading enterprise people strategy for several multi-site, regulated, and high-growth organizations, including long-term care facilities. Her proven track record of leading and developing HR teams, improving engagement and retention, and advising leadership through workforce transformation is integral as she gets set to oversee our HR department.

Lorna is a native of Chippewa Falls and a graduate of UW-Eau Claire, where she earned her MBA in Business Concentration. She also earned her BS in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.

“When I arrived at Dove Healthcare – Rice Lake, I felt so sick, down and out after a week in the hospital. I came in on oxygen and walked just 25 feet using a two-wheeled walker. My goal was to get back to a level of independence so I could return home safely.

In the five weeks I spent here at Dove Healthcare – Rice Lake, my experience was fantastic. The NuStep bike was the best to make improvements to my strength and endurance. Exercises were very important for improving my balance as well. I did a lot of walking around the facility and Logan even took me outside to work on walking on uneven surfaces and getting in and out of his car. I am now getting around without an assistive device.

I don’t know what I would’ve done without Logan. The therapy he provided me has been amazing and the basics that he has shown me have been terrific. Morale was very low at first, and conversations with Logan helped me come back out of depressive state – helped regain stability about myself. I’ll never forget him. He has been a godsend to me.

The staff in general have been incredible; they have helped me a ton when I’m down and out. Being able to talk to them has helped me. My medications were given on time. The building itself is unbelievable. I’ve learned new swallowing strategies and oral motor exercises, too. The food and the kitchen staff are grade A. I never could ask for better.

I absolutely would recommend Dove Healthcare – Rice Lake for rehabilitation. After listening to people who have been to other places, Dove Healthcare outshines them all. If you want to go home, and be able to go home 100%, Dove Healthcare is the place to go.”

Congratulations to Kyla, CNA, our February 2026 Employee of the Month! "Kyla is a hard-working, dedicated CNA. She comes to work every day with a very positive attitude and consistently goes above and beyond to make sure our residents are well cared for and have everything they need. She is dependable, always willing to help out where needed and she is someone other team members respect and enjoy working with. We are grateful to have her on our Dove Healthcare team,” shared Director or Nursing Vickie Haney.

Kyla responded, “My work is important to me because I enjoy making a positive difference in our resident’s daily lives and ensuring they feel safe, respected and cared for. I’m very grateful to be part of a workplace that values team work and quality care.”

It certainly hasn't felt like spring these past couple of days, but we got together for a session of 'Think Spring' bean bag toss to help us take our minds off of the winter weather! We had a blast earning Dove Dollars for our upcoming activity auction. A special thanks to our volunteer Terri for helping us toss some bags, too!

Our monthly Little Red Barn Dog Rescue visit featured three adorable Pomeranian puppies. Volunteer, Sue brought these little cuties to us in a very small basket, with all three puppies together weighing less than six pounds! The pups seemed very at ease being handled by our residents and staff, and our residents certainly loved having a puppy in their arms. Once again, we say thank you to our volunteer Sue and the folks at Little Red Barn for sharing their puppies with us.

Our Dove Healthcare leadership team works hard to ensure the best quality of life for those entrusted in our care, as well as ensuring our valued team members have the support and resources they need to be successful and provide the highest quality care.

March 11 is Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day! Dove Healthcare is so thankful for the guidance and expertise of our registered dietitians. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day was created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics “to increase the awareness of registered dietitian nutritionists as the indispensable providers of food and nutrition services. Several ladies gathered recently to work on a card craft in honor of St Patrick's Day, making fun greeting cards to share with family and friends. These Irish-themed, as well as all of the other card kits we use have been assembled for our residents by volunteers Barb Walters and Nancy Kodesh. The kits certainly make our craft sessions better, as the hard work has been done for us, so all we have to do is create! Thanks Barb and Nancy, for your gift of time and talent in preparing these great kits. We love them!

Cameron, our administrative intern, initiated a project to gauge whether brain teaser puzzles have any cognitive effect on residents that play them. These brain games give residents the opportunity to work together by brainstorming ideas that lead to the right answer. Residents are prompted to think critically, communicate with each other, and have fun while playing. Brain games will be played during Social throughout the month of March, with Cameron collecting data to determine what, if any impact these specific games have on those who play them. Based upon what we have seen so far, it is clear that attendees are enjoying these new games. Thanks, Cameron, for putting a new twist on brain games!

A bunch of us enjoyed an afternoon pizza party on Wednesday! Kids Korner Pizza delivered four piping hot pizzas to us and they paired beautifully with the wonderful music provided for us by Lenore Berg!

March is National Social Work Month, and the theme for 2026 is 'Uplift. Defend. Transform.' According to the National Association of Social Workers, the theme honors the prime mission of the Social Work profession – to enhance human well-being, meet the basic human needs of all people, and put special attention on the needs and empowerment of people are vulnerable, oppressed and living in poverty.

Social workers have enriched our society by empowering people and communities to overcome hurdles that prevent them from living life to the fullest.

We thank our Dove Healthcare social workers, and other members of the social services departments, for all they do to support and advocate for our residents!
