Today is World Hearing Day! I was speaking to a young man last week who said, "one day I'll get my dad in for hearing aids. He has had that TV up too loud for years."

I asked him, "why 'one day' and not today?" He replied that his dad says hearing aids are for old people.

This reasoning is likely why so many people do not get the maximum benefit from today's hearing aid technology - they don't even realize the devastating effects hearing impairment has on our brain health and quality of life as we age.

Your brain responds to hearing loss by reorganizing (called neural plasticity) and it will help you through those "mildly annoying" phases of hearing impairment. However, this can lead to cross-modal plasticity; which is when other sensory modalities take over parts of the auditory cortex, impairing sound perception when one finally decides to utilize hearing aids.

I am so excited to announce that Sikorski Hearing is now a certified center for the new Lace program by Neurotone.

Lace AI Pro is a fun and effective way to train your brain to improve communication skills; which often continues to be a challenge for individuals with hearing impairment - even while using hearing aids.

No matter where you obtained your hearing aids, Sikorski Hearing and Tinnitus Wellness Center is here to help you get the most out of them! Call us today at (888) 227-6137 for more information on this amazing program.

Since day one, Sikorski Hearing has promised to utilize the most advanced technology to analyze hearing and hearing aids. Today, we get to announce that we've broken the barrier by adding one of the newest pieces of technological advancements available to our industry - a 3D digital ear scanner.

Thanks to the folks at Natus Medical, this marvel takes a scan of the entire ear canal, allowing for remarkable accuracy for custom hearing aids, ear molds, hearing protection, and swim plugs.

Now, please help us come up with a name for this equipment so Hope stops calling him "WALL-E."

I understand why someone may neglect to inform their P*P about their challenges hearing; but it is very hard for me to understand why a P*P would neglect to refer their patient to someone who specializes in hearing for an evaluation!

I am thankful to work with several physicians who routinely refer their patient's to Sikorski Hearing for follow-up. But there are FAR too many who fail to achieve that same level of care.

A new law (signed in 2022, effective March 2024) is making the removal of a battery from a package a far more difficult task!

At just 18 months of age, Reese Hamsmith swallowed a button battery that lead to her death; prompting the passage of a new law to make use of these small batteries safer for children. The final rule (16 CFR 1263) requires all manufacturers of button cell and coin batteries to modify their packaging in a way that requires the use of a tool or at least two simultaneous movements to open (along with new labeling).

Retailers of these batteries are able to sell their current stock of batteries without this new packaging. It will not be long before you see new packaging through Sikorski Hearing because we order smaller quantities to ensure freshness. Remember, 6 months after these batteries are made, 20% of the zinc will no longer hold a charge.

We understand that opening these may be a difficult task for many of our patients; but, please do NOT open them all at once and put them in a container! Batteries are separated for a reason.
