🚽 Struggling with potty training?

You’re not alone — and it’s NOT just about getting your child to “go.” 🙅‍♀️

Potty training can be overwhelming because it’s tied to sensory needs, core strength, body awareness, and emotions. 😳 But with the right strategies, you can make it a calmer, smoother experience for everyone. 🌟

These strategies can make ALL the difference:

📖 Read books or watch videos – Make toileting fun and familiar so kids know what to expect.

⏰ Stick to a schedule – Consistency builds confidence and helps prevent accidents.

🫧 Blow bubbles on the toilet – Blowing engages deep core muscles, helping kids relax their pelvic floor and make “going” easier (plus, it’s fun!).

🪑 Use a stool – Proper posture supports core stability, giving little bodies the leverage they need to p**p comfortably and completely.

✨ If your child has sensory sensitivities:

Play calming music or sing a song 🎵

Adjust harsh or bright lighting 💡

Mask strong bathroom smells 🌸

Use soft toilet paper or wet wipes 🧻

Try swinging or rocking beforehand to help regulate 🪁

👅 Oral motor activities are about so much more than just chewing or blowing bubbles!

Here’s why OTs and STs love using them:
✨ Provide sensory input for kids who crave oral stimulation
🤐 Increase oral awareness for kids with low sensitivity
🌟 Support self-regulation — calming or alerting the nervous system
🥨 Improve feeding skills with different textures and foods
🍼 Help with transitions — like bottle to cup or purees to solids
💪 Strengthen oral muscles for better chewing, swallowing, & coordination
🧼 Reduce drooling/open mouth posture by improving awareness and control

These activities make feeding, talking, and regulation fun and functional! 🌟

You’re not alone — and there are simple ways to encourage more words at home! 🗣️💛

Try these fun, everyday strategies that make speech practice feel like play:
🍼 Give choices instead of yes/no questions
🎵 Pause during songs or stories to let them fill in the blank
🧸 Keep favorite toys just out of reach to spark requests
🥤 A little “sabotage” — like handing them an empty cup — can motivate them to speak up!

Small changes, big progress. 🌟

🇺🇸 Honoring and Remembering 9/11

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the countless heroes who showed courage and compassion on September 11, 2001.

As a pediatric therapy clinic, we are reminded daily of the importance of resilience, hope, and the strength of coming together as a community. ❤️

May we continue to teach our little ones about kindness, bravery, and supporting one another — every single day.

👣 Helping your little one take those first steps!
Watching your baby go from standing to walking is such an exciting milestone. These 4 physical therapy tips can support your near-walker as they build balance, strength, and confidence:

1️⃣ Walk with hand support (1 or 2 hands) – keep their arm at their side for better posture.
2️⃣ Use a push toy – add a little weight for slower, more controlled walking.
3️⃣ Walk while holding a shared toy – like a hula hoop or book, to promote balance and independence.
4️⃣ Encourage steps toward you – use yourself as motivation and keep your hands at their eye level.

✨ Take it slow, keep it fun, and celebrate every step of progress!

✨ Helping kids grow, play, and thrive! ✨
There are so many products out there marketed for kids, but not all of them truly support healthy development. The best tools are usually the simplest—ones that encourage movement, play, and connection. 💡

And remember: the most powerful “product” your child has is YOU—your encouragement, play, and love. 💕

Hey teachers! Welcome back to school! 🍎✏️
We know how busy (and exciting!) the start of the year can be, so here’s a quick guide to 4 things to keep an eye out forthat might signal an OT referral:
1️⃣ “W” Sitting
🪑 A student often sits in a “W” shape?
This could be a sign of core strength or hip stability challenges—worth a quick OT check-in.
2️⃣ Pencil Grasp
✏️ Fist or awkward pencil grip?
An OT can help fine-tune grasp for smoother, more confident writing.
3️⃣ Cutting Skills
✂️ Trouble cutting along lines?
Fine motor or coordination needs might be the cause—OTs have great strategies for this.
4️⃣ Trouble Sitting Still
🪴 Constant wiggling or leaving their seat?
Sensory or attention needs may be at play—OT can support regulation skills.
📌 Early observation = early support! The sooner we spot these signs, the sooner students get the tools they need to succeed.

✂️ Happy First Week of School – A Reminder for Our Lefties!

Happy first week of school! 🎉
Here’s a quick reminder to check that your students and children who are left-handed have the correct scissors.

🚫 If Lefties Use Right-Handed Scissors:
• They often can’t clearly see what they’re cutting.
• The blades press together incorrectly, tearing the paper instead of cutting it cleanly.
• They may twist their wrist or body awkwardly, which can lead to fatigue or poor cutting habits.
• Over time, this can affect their confidence and fine motor skill development.

✅ Why True Left-Handed Scissors Matter:
• Support the natural movement of the hand
• Improve cutting accuracy and safety
• Encourage proper wrist and hand positioning
• Build fine motor skills without unnecessary frustration

A small change can make a big difference in comfort, skill, and confidence!

P.S. the scissors pictured are called loop scissors that are great for kids when learning to cut!
