Contact us to learn how neurologic music therapy can help you, your loved one, or your residents today. We are available by appointment for at-home individual sessions following an assessment or for groups with common functional goals (living with Parkinson's, memory care, stroke recovery). Group settings include residential care homes, skilled nursing facilities, or community-based locations such as churches. Neurologic music therapy is a set of standardized, research-based techniques which use music as a tool in training or retraining the brain using the phenomenon of neuroplasticity. These techniques have been designed over decades of clinical practice and ongoing research such as brain imaging by the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Treatment areas focus on goals in the cognitive, speech/language, and sensorimotor domains, often in combination. Qualified NMTs design therapy sessions focused on functional outcomes which can be measured and proven to have significant outcomes in clients' daily lives. Examples include:

> Relearning to speak simple conversational phrases following a stroke or brain injury
> Information recall and attention control for people with dementia
> Decreasing risk of falls and maintaining range of motion for Parkinson's patients

Rose Music Therapy Services is seeking to widen the limited access North Texas currently has to neurologic music therapy as a specialized, proven treatment in neuro rehabilitation. Elizabeth Rose, MA, MT-BC has worked in the Dallas area as a board-certified music therapist since 2006.

New research continues to show the benefits of using music in speech and language recovery!

“According to the study results, singing increased the volume of grey matter in the language regions of the left frontal lobe and improved tract connectivity especially in the language network of the left hemisphere, but also in the right hemisphere.”

Singing rehabilitates speech production in post-stroke aphasia. Researchers at the University of Helsinki investigated the rehabilitative effect of singing on the brain.

Happy Thanksgiving week from Rose Music Therapy Services! We loved this recent Today Show story demonstrating the power of music therapy interventions to stimulate neurological engagement for people with Alzheimer’s. Research continues to prove that creating music with a variety of populations can help them to live fuller and more functional lives.

Alzheimer's patients and caregivers are using music as a way to communicate. For Alzheimer's Awareness Month, MSNBC's Richard Lui talks to caregivers of family members living with Alzheimer's about how a music therapy program is helping to reestablish a connection they thought was lost years ago.
