Good morning, the holidays are quickly approaching us, if you are in need of getting your prescriptions refilled before going on vacation or out of the country, please be aware that you must make an appointment to see Dr. Favroth. If you have NOT seen the Dr. in more than three months from your last visit or need a controlled substance that requires a script, you MUST make an appointment. We will not be able to refill your prescriptions 24 hours before you go on vacation or any other circumstances you may have. You MUST make an appointment a week or two in advance. Please DO NOT WAIT until the last minute to request a prescription refill.

Even though Week 2 was very STRESSFUL for Sharon Wright she has lost an additional 4lb (total 10 lbs) counting her carbohydrates and drinking Bioslim. Her recommendation this week was that though you may have stressful days which you fall off the wagon it is important to get right back on track.
Congratulations to one of our Bioslim testers, Sharon Wright for losing 6 lbs her first week. . Her program consist of keeping her carbohydrates to a max of 40 carbohydrates per meal (She actually kept her carbs at 35 grams per meals) and drinking 1/2 pack of Bioslim prior to breakfast .

I am interested in starting a support group for post-bariatric patients who are still struggling with their weight. Tell me what you think about this idea?
It is not unusual for friends and family members to become uncomfortable with your new weight and to try to consciously or unconsciously sabotage your progress Today we had an example of this when one of my patients who recently lost 100lbs informed me that her husband thought her new body was ugly. Do you have diet saboteurs in your life?
Counting carbohydrates is essential for controlling diabetes. Recently one of my new type II Diabetic patient decided to take control of his health. He began counting his carbohydrates and he kept his carbohydrate number below a certain number that we had originally agreed upon. In addition he began drinking a fiber supplement prior to his two heaviest meals and within 4 weeks he was able to stop taking his 25 units of INSULIN. (I am so proud of him !)
The key to weight loss is change in diet. The maintenance of weight loss is exercise.
The purpose of exercise is to maintain your weight loss not as a means to lose weight. Most people can not do the extreme amount of exercise it would take to lose a large amount of weight. Remember you have to burn approximately 3600 calories to lose a single pound of fat.
Today I was talking to a young woman who for the last year was very committed to an exercise program that required her to exercise 1 hour a day 6 days a week along with a calorie restricted diet. During that year she did not lose weight even though she closely followed the program. Have you even been in that situation?
What is fructose? Fructose is a very sweet sugar relatively inexpensive. It is used in baking because it browns very well in baked goods.
Researchers found that after drinking a fructose beverage(eg carbonated cola drink etc) , the brain doesn't register the feeling of being FULL as it does when simple glucose (lemonaide with sugar) is consumed. This may be reason why children are still very hungry after they drank a large cola drink.
The role of insulin is to drive sugar into the cells of the body where it is used as a source of energy. If this energy (sugar) is not used by the cells or is more than is needed, it is converted into an energy storage form known as FAT.
As you know our low fat high carbohydrate diet has not been successful. Obesity and diabetes rates are soaring!
Dr. Richard K Bernstein , author of Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution and others now believe that it is not fat but carbohydrates, that are making us sick and heavy due to elevated insulin levels.

Many of our children of color are developing light patches on their faces. The most common cause of these light patches is due to SUN exposure. (eg sunburn, eczema etc) Remember to use SUNBLOCK SP 50 OR HIGHER on your child, particularly on the face, to prevent exacerbating these patches. It will take months to see any improvement in their skin so prevention is the key.
A great shampoo for swimmers is Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three because it removes Chlorine and Impurities after your swim. I talked to a hair care specialist who also recommends that you apply the conditioner prior to the swim to block the absorption of chlorine. After the swim you are to shampoo the hair with Paul Mitchel Shampoo Three followed by the conditioner. This will add more protection to your hair during the summer. Again remember to use cool water to rinse the conditioner out of the hair to close the hair follicles.
